July 26th
Fest announced. Began conceptualization on three first ideas.

July 27th
Narrowed ideas down to two different premises. Began writing.

July 28th
Wrote summaries for two different premises-- one of these was "The Zombie and I." Conceptualized three different endings... debated which one was best.

July 29th
Finished first draft of the script with most plausible ending. Still debating on which one is the best. Made two other versions of the script. Wrote second draft of the original script.

July 30th
Wrote the third and final draft of the script with a new ending that I hadn't even considered before. Also, secured my main location as well as the majority of my cast.

July 31st and August 1st
Took a break.

August 2nd
Did a test shoot on the location. Only using practical light. Did a make-up test. Pre-blood splattered zombie clothes and secured my final casting issue.

August 3rd
Production from 12 pm until 4 pm. Completed shooting scenes 2, 3, and 5
Production again from 8pm until 12:30 am. Completed shooting scenes 4, 6, 7, 8, 9. (keep in mind, many of these so called "scenes" are literally a fourth of a page)
Spent nearly 2 hours cleaning up the location. Got home around 2 am and started doing some color and vfx tests on the footage. Happy with it so far.

August 4th
Taking a break.

August 5th
Wrapped on principal photography! :D
Now for post! (which is going to occur over a much greater period of time because I'm doing it when I have the time...i.e. in the middle of the night and weekends)

August 6th
Did a rough edit of about... ehhh... 80% of the film. Thats not including vfx/sound/color ... just purely piecing the scenes together. I'm going to need to trim some scenes but most of it is coming out exactly as I wanted. There are a couple cutaways that I need to get out of my house and grab real quick but that should take 30 minutes sometime this weekend. There is one particular scene that I'm having trouble with because I was stupid and changed the lighting after the first shot or two (thats the problem with being both the director and dp I guess... a bunch of stuff to remember all at once) and its very obvious... unless I can fix it through vfx/color correction I'll have to do some sort of bizarre editing manuever to avoid it. Unfortunately I'm already starting work on this other larger project that demands my attention so I won't be able to go back and reshoot at all. Oi vey.

I only really have time to work on this for the next two weeks... so this may or may not wind up happening... depending on how quickly I can pull my resources together. We will see.

hmmm... could be anything from a horror movie to an interesting buddy film. Can't wait to see what direction it takes!

Haha thanks guys. Actually jai, thats what I'm afraid to reveal anything more than the title... because I think knowing anything about the plot beforehand might ruin the experience of watching it. You'll see what I mean when its finished :D .

Anyway, I slammed down a couple pages of the script today. I'm pretty confident with it so far. I have 3 endings, each with very different tones and statements... so I don't know which one I'm gunning for yet. I might shoot all 3 and make alt. ending versions haha. We'll see. I've got it pretty much entirely cast, half-written, and the locations are also half worked out. I've got 12 days to finish production. I can do post prod. throughout the next month or so when I have time... but after the next 12 days, I won't be able to do any physical production. :(

Wish me luck

Thanks everyone!

So some updates... couldn't sleep last night, so I began working on the other 2 versions of the script. The problem being that the alt endings basically encompass the last 2 or 3 pages of each version... so its no easy thing to change it. It basically determines what the last 3 scenes are every time. I had a large debate with myself about which one keeps the tone that I originally wanted for the film... and it may be the one I have already written in. I have pretty much thrown out one of the endings because I feel that the "twist" (they don't all have... "twists"... don't worry) just doesn't fit with the characters and the feel of the piece-- but it is probably the most "twisted" ending. Then at one point I decided perhaps to take it in an entirely different direction... so now I have 3 endings again, and 1 other thats in the trash. Oi vey!

The good news is that-- I just secured my hardest location! I haven't gotten a chance to see it yet, but a friend of the family is lending it to me saying that they haven't even been there since last year so I can do whatever I like. :D

Back to work on the script! Right now my shooting dates are the 3rd and 4th of August. Perhaps the 5th if anything runs over.

UPDATE: Just finished the third draft of my script. Probably the final draft. I don't like to over edit. I'm pretty comfortable with the ending now. :D

Visited my location today... not sure what I'm feeling about it. But I have two other options so we will see. The film is cast, the script is 99% finalized, and the location is secured but not definite. Shooting dates are still next Monday, Tuesday, and possibly Wednesday.

Thanks! 2 Hours and counting. :D Packing up my gear and getting ready to head out to the main location. We managed to compress our shooting schedule yesterday, so now we're shooting about 75% of the movie today and tonight ... and only a little tomorrow or Wednesday.

Haha. I had to do it quick or it wasn't going to get done. Next week I start a bigger project and I won't have any time for this fest. I really wanted to participate more than writing a script for someone else so the day it was announced, I just sat down and had a lengthy conceptualization session for several hours, came up with about 3 ideas I liked and then did pre-prod on all of them until one of them was obviously the one that would be possible to shoot on short notice. Hence, The Zombie and I won out over two other scripts. Then I did a rewrite or two in the next two days, got some of my actor friends involved and borrowed a location that someone else didn't need. Oi vey. Today was rough, shot fast and hard... one man crews are stressful. I'm liking all my footage though-- cept for maybe one or two shots. Only problem is that 50% of the project needs a least a small digital effect done to each shot-- more on that later. I've got one more day of production (more like a morning) on Wednesday... then I'll be editing it in the middle of the night for the next couple months.

Micheal Anthony Horrigan- Thanks man :D Like I said though, rough color. Literally stopped filming it, sat down, tossed the file into After Effects and worked on a batch of 'em for about 10 minutes to see what I could do quickly.

Looking good KOHR, you are really keeping us up to date with what's going on and let's hope you are allowed to place the blogs (I can't see why not, as it isn't footage from the movie). Keep it coming.
