August 15, 2009 - Locked in Shawn Hook-Carleton (IMDB (http://www.imdb.com/name/nm3049829/)) to handle production sound for the film. Jake Vincent is going to grip for us as well as lend his Kessler Crane to the production. Anthony Ranieri will be handling lights and electrical as Gaffer. In talks with a Make-Up Supervisor to come on board.

August 14, 2009 - Rewriting the ending sequence and beginning scheduling. Don't ask.

August 07, 2009 - Sent long version of script off to the actors. The ending will change. Trying to integrate the shorter version so it's a seamless fit. The key here is to DESIGN the project so that editing is the key to the short version for MonsterFest. The design works well so far, we just have to work out some details...

July 30, 2009 - Decided on a small change in the script that will require prosthetics and makeup, practical FX where we'd previously had none. The rule change kind of threw me for a loop in my whole marketing plan for this movie but after some thought realized that it changed nothing. This movie isn't about "monster"... its about "monsters"... Started sketches for the makeup people, but hate them all so far.

July 29, 2009 - Talked to Damien about co-producing and doing some location hunting for me while I'm away from Toronto. We've decided on 3 shooting days, dates to be determined later once I have a grip on things.

July 28, 2009 - Renamed the story... again. Back to the original name instead of "Once Bitten". "Flower" is a much better fit especially given the circumstances of the story. Talked to Andrew (actually on the phone) about how the story is going to play out. Messaged Jessica and told her we were on for sure. Emailed Robert and Damien to confirm their participation.

July 27, 2009 - Found the beats for the shorter version. Wrote a rough draft and sent it off to Andrew.

July 26, 2009 - Finally got hold of Andrew. Patted ourselves on the back for placing 8th... then vowed to do better. Discussed how we could do the short version of "Flower" which came in at 14 pages in the last rewrite. Decided that we were doing the long version anyway, but needed a strategy for the shorter version for MonsterFest. Andrew's words "it's already in the script. Look for it." Couldn't resist any further and made a poster to lock down the theme... started the thread, Facebook page and website.

July 25, 2009 - Reminded Jason Ramsey to tell us what the new fest was. When MonsterFest was announced, did a little dance of joy inside as elation and the feeling of being ahead caught up with me. Called Andrew to tell him that we were doing "Flower" for sure. No answer. Jerk.

Nope, this is a brand new one we were trying to get going earlier this year. We wanted to do it right, so we started raising a budget and decided to put a lot of preproduction into it before shooting a single frame. Ironically enough, we had scheduled production to take place in September/October so it fits extremely well into the "Monster Fest" theme and timeline.

The real trick here is that it's a 15 minute story but I had already been kicking around an idea. for a much shorter 6 minute version for the fest. The feedback here is so great that it's worth seeing how it plays to this very particular audience.

There are about 50 Bikers I'm hoping to secure, and a little lead time is gonna help. A friend of mine suggested Gay Biker Bars (which apparently there are quite a few of) and I'm thinking that would be a great idea. Gonna have Damian tackle that.

Sure the rules may say you have to do this or include this thing... but the mods aren't out there to stop us from makign films. If anything they want to encourage us to do it. It's Monster Fest. Let's have some fun with those monsters and blow shi* UP!

Ehh, honestly its never really been at the top of my film making list, but I don't really mind it. If I can get my butt around to making something more than a trailer (don't forget to vote on AdFest august 31st!) I'll hopefully submit something for this. If I do it'll most likely be a "symbolic monster" film rather than a zombie flick. But you never know ;)

As for the bikini thing: that's the plot of the movie:

Jessica beats a T-Rex (named Flower) to death with a rubber slipper.

That's the whole movie. We're shooting all on green screen. Matt is going to get stepped on, Robert will be eaten, and Damien will run screaming like a little girl.

Then the bikers show up and drink beer and watch the festivities.

Alright, looks like I'll be finishing the final polish of the script today. I'm at LAX right now getting ready for my long flight back to Atlanta. With the length of this flight I might as well be flying to Australia to hang out with Noel, but alas, it's only good old Atlanta. It should giveme the perfect opportunity to do several rewrites, but writing in a vacuum has never been my favorite. Unfortunately I'm on Continental, so no in-flight internet... but doesn't matter anyway since Andrew is also on a flight to Seattle this morning.

I'll be also thinking up some goodies to share with you guys about the project.

I've been doing some research for background on the characters, especially for "Claude" (Damien Dornford) and never quite realised just how creepy some of these stalkers can get. You see it in the news all the time, but to try to sort though the whole sordid mess of it...

Considering soliciting some stories from real people who have been stalked on all levels. I have a friend who used to stalk her ex-boyfriend, but in a completely harmless way, so maybe I'll start with her...

Anyway, lots of things to think about and write. Time for boarding.

Got a quote back from a Visual Effecrs guy today for one of the monsters and apparently I should have approached him differently because now he thinks I'm made of money and have some huge budget. I knew I shouldn't have linked him to "Strange Days..."
