Had some issues with a lot of noise, got it all fixed now. I tried using the same settings that I had from my DVX, but apparently that's a bad idea.

Thanks for watching,

- Josh

That footage is just sick. WOW!

You have to tell everyone what settings you used in camera? What the camera setup was? And what your settings were for exporting? We have to know! LOL

Wow that's awesome :). I admire your discipline to keep away from the zoom ring - that adds a huge element of professionalism.

Did you have a lot of trouble keeping everything in focus? You didn't trust the AF I presume...

Thanks again - your video was beautifully done :)

Wow! Thanks for the kind words! Really means a lot to me!

As for the camera settings I'll post them up tomorrow. For the most part everything is pretty flat and almost set to 0. I did a decent amount of grading in post for some of this.

The focus is definitely tough for me right now, as I'm still used to the DVX DOF haha. I still need a lot more time behind the camera before I get the hang of it 100%

But so far I'm absolutely loving the camera!

Thanks again guys!

Well you finally bit the bullet Josh and bought an HMC,,,, although most of your DVX footage was spectacular to say the least, this is the ice cream on top of the cake. Wow what yummy footage,,,, I'm so badly itching for my HMC right now,,, actually nearly bought it today but I must be diciplined and wait until the end of August cause I have other financial commitments right now, but jeez its tempting after seeing this mate.

Thanks for sharing this Josh.

great work man, I haven't seen a nice drift edit in quite a while! I'm really bummed there was no challenger footage, I assume the thing still isn't ready to drift :(. Was there a shot of the Retaks car in there too? It looked like it but I wasn't a hundred percent sure, if it was then thats awesome, Dave the owner is a super cool dude, I've shot some stuff for him @ Irwindale and LBC last year! Keep it up man looked awesome!

Thanks again for the compliments! Means a lot

As for my scene settings they were as followed
-7 master ped
cinelike D gamma
cinelike matrix
shot in 24p (various shutter speeds from 1/48 to 1/250)
and 60p (Various shutter speeds from 1/120 to 1/500)

Everything else is just the stock settings.

I shot pretty flat and did a decent amount of grading in post.

Thanks again!

Fantastic again :). Do you have any book/tutorial recommendations for color correction/color theory? I've read Mark Christiansen's book but he just goes over a few mechanics without really explaining the science.

I ask because you clearly have an eye for it. I can pull off a simple S-curve but when it comes to really manipulating colors I tend to botch things and I'm looking for resources to help me.

What editing software did you use?

Shaun - Yep! I finally bit the bullet and picked one up. I love it, although shooting side by side with one of my friends who has an HPX kind of is a downer haha. There is a definite loss of quality between the two cameras. But I'm extremely happy with the HMC, and the workflow was actually extremely easy to work with...which was something that really worried me before buying the camera.

TigerFX - Thanks! As for tutorials the only ones I've really looked at for color grading were the Stu Maschwitz one on vimeo, and one that another person had posted here on DVXuser (can't remember the name of it) Other than that, I just try to watch and disect how different features are color graded. That and one of my good friends is pretty good at grading so I picked his brain quite a bit as well! hahaha

here's the link to the Stu Maschwitz one: http://vimeo.com/5298634

Skilled - I edit in Final cut pro 6.0.4 and do my grading in Colorista and Magic Bullet Looks

Thanks again!

Thanks so much for the Maschwitz link! It was great. I'm using CS4 - I can't understand why After Effects doesn't have some of the color correction tools Prem does.

I picked up a copy of Looks and wow - seems like there's tools there that would take substantially longer to imitate using just After Effects alone.

I had absolutely no idea about "vignettes" before - or spot exposure as I'm a total newb. I'm having a lot of fun playing with Looks.

Also, from what I understand, you can't animate a vignette in Looks but you can in Colorista?

When you say
shot in 24p (various frame rates from 1/48 to 1/250)
and 60p (Various frame rates from 1/120 to 1/500)

do you mean shutter speed?

Thanks again.

Wow. Very nice footage and edit. I would love to shoot something like this. I took a look at your other videos on there also and they are all great. Makes me miss my 240 even more.

I actually sold the Spec v now too. Im rocking a new automatic Honda unfortunately. I thought I wanted auto for my long commute and Honda for the gas mileage but I regret it. The car is a lot nicer than the Spec but I will never buy an auto again.

Cool. Got me an AMD Phenom 940 which seems to work very well compared with my old dual core.
