View Full Version : Why four audio tracks?

Hi

With my new HPX171 I have noticed that when I bring the P2 footage in to Premier CS4 I get four audio tracks, rather than the two I expected.

There seems to be something on 1 and 2 (as expected) and also something on 3 but not 4.

I'm guessing I'm somehow mirroring over my tracks 1 and 2 but not sure how or what settings this would be covered by.

Thanks in advance if you can help.

Broadcast specs require certain information in those 4 channels:

http://www.pbs.org/producers/redbook/

That should help. Look at section 3.4

You get four audio tracks because the HPX171 records a full four audio tracks. Two from the XLR inputs and two from the onboard microphone.

i dont know about premiere but in FCP you can target specific channels to import/transfer. thus eliminating the extra unneeded ones

In CS4, you can bring in only the tracks you want. Go to the white paper here:

ftp://ftp.panasonic.com/pub/Panasonic/business/provideo/whitepapers/WP_Using_P2HD_with_Adobe_CS4.pdf

Check out the Source Channel Mapping starting on page 16.
