Well my last one (link (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=176768)) was shot in the dark with minimal light, this one is the opposite.

Staring at the Sun was shot on a GH1 with some old
FD mount lenses I bought used. Shot downtown NYC.
Some of you old school party hedz might like the music ... ESG - Moody

All shots with Cosina FD 35-70mm zoom at f3.5 1/50
except musicians with Canon FD 50mm at f1.4 1/60 with NDs

Enjoy and leave a comment!

Cool! Those lenses have a unique look... I can't wait to take out my M42 lenses. It's torture not getting my GH1 June order filled! Grrrrrr

What did you shoot this in 1080 or 720/60? What were your settings?

Btw Luv Footage of NYC. Seeing this reminds me how you walk to where want to go. Unlike CA, were we have to drive to get anywhere!

Yeh, really interesting flare artifacts, especially that horizontal line.
The Cosina zoom is works in reverse because it moves the aperture, not the glass so when the lens is extended it is 35mm and when it is contracted it is 70mm.
Its the Cosina that gave me the horizontal line in the flare that you can see and I used it for all shots except the musicians.

Frame size was a mixture of both, most of it 1080p24, all the musicians and skateboarders were 720p. Film mode was smooth I think.

The GH1 handles those over exposures so well. The highlight roll off is nice. Gotta luv large sensors. Did you have that Icontrast or Exposure/DR expansion on or off? Or whatever it's called!

Off. I just rely on histos, viewfinder and LCD.
Hey Pappas, I posted another one in a thread called Curtains in this section. You might like that one for seeing GH1 highlights too.

Lovely! I love lens flares, that horizontal split in the Cosina is very neat. Have you tried CCing in some contrast into these shots, just pulling the low end down towards black? Could look very cool.

Yes lens flares would look cool with a wider range but I purposely did the opposite for this piece. I matched those shots with deep blacks to the lighter ones (like the fire escape & tree had strong shadows) and was careful not to shift mids or lighter tones so lens flares remained unaffected. I felt it conveyed more of the staring at the sun feeling, just my personal taste for this piece.

I agree, I just wondered how it would hold up for that :)

This is one of the coolest aspects of this cam! super stylistic shots...

I have a lens with the craziest flare ever that I can't wait to play with on this cam... It's a schneider 16mm/1.4 c-mount.

Check it out:

Would you tell us what adapter(s) you're using for the GH1-to-FD lenses? I'm assuming you have the Oly 4/3-to-u4/3 plus another ??? adapter.

Ciao,

Ditto. Precisely machined in just two aluminum parts. No screws or plates or anything that can break. Just mind the inner red colour marking, it might chafe against a spring flange in the GH1 mount. I'm gonna take it off just to be sure.

These frames/flares remind me of those cheap psychedelic Jesus/Satin or UFO movies made in the 70's.....Freaky!

Here's a weird one I shot a while ago!

Very cool!

I wonder if the squarish shape in the flare is a reflection of the GH1's image sensor itself?
