well to preface this... this is really for the low budget indy group with really nothing.

Not sure if people in the forums are FXPHD member, but anyways the O week video was posted today and show Stu (Rebels Guide) teaching a class on using a dslr for filming and in that clip it shows Stu holding the 5d mkII with a long canon telephoto lens and it is mounted to a gorillapod which he was using the legs to balance the camera against his arm.

So for you indy guys I was wondering if this could be a base as to developing a rig b/c assuming you could fashion a gorillapod with stiff enough legs you could have one leg lean against your chest (with a plate/pad?) with another wrapped around your hand and the third over your shoulder. I am not sure if the current gorillapods will be able to handle something like this.... but it could be greatly expanded by having a leg that carried your Zoom H4n or whatever

this may not be the greatest idea but for certain occasions it could function as a rig for the low-budget film maker

I have a Gorillapod SLR zoom from my previous camera and i put the GH1 on it. You can certainly make it operate as a "chestopod" as is if you put a small ball-head on it. Don't know about rigging other peripherals onto it though.

I've used my gorillapod as a hand held support. Just bended the legs so they formed two handles.

I concur. It's a pretty versatile device and works fine as a quick handheld rig. Another use for a Gorilla pod with a ball head is slam a nail into a wall and tie the pod to it when you don't have a wide enough lens to cover as much as you like of a room from a tripod. I didn't want to add another hole to my walls but an existing clothes hanger and a kitchen s-hook from Ikea worked fine to show the concept.

Which model are you using? They have a new one called Focus that has 11.5 inch legs and metal parts - looks really substantial - could maybe have two handles and a chest support with this. Don't think they're long enough for a shoulder support:

I have the SLR Zoom version. It holds 6.6ibs/3kg and with large, 70-200 lenses, it does not hold that well but for smaller primes it's perfect.

Stu tweeted about the new Gorillapod Focus, so wouldn't surprise me if that's the one he's using. You can follow him as @5tu.
