Anyone know a good way to create software used as a movie prop? I'm working on a script that will call for custom software titles to be seen on screen that look like an auction website, a data decrypting program, and a remote data-tracking program.

I have considerable experience with Fusion, which is a website creation tool, and that might do it (certainly for the auction site, maybe not the others) but I'm wondering if anyone knows of any applications that are designed for just this purpose. Basically a customizable GUI (drop-down menu bar, etc.) that would link to additional custom windows that could be made to look like various types of applications. Anyone know if such a thing exists?

if not, how are most prop software apps created for films?

Any dirt simple media development environment like Flash or Director can simulate this, or you could just use one of the many free development environments to call up screens linked as resources in your phony app.

Seconding Director. It's been an industry-standard playback graphics tool for years.

"Bricklin's Demo" for old-school.
