the real question is, do you have any good footage to justify such a rig.

I'd run if that thing was pointed at me! (JK) :)

That's quite the rig.

My Mac Froze just after a long breakdown of what and why so I'm disinclined to go on and on but yes, I shoot with it like that for my recent project and obviously, omit unnecessary peripherals on an as uneeded basis. The DECWARE headphone amp is only useful when I use cheapy earbuds and now that I'm using the Zoom H4N as a standard Pre-amp and recorder, the Beachtek DXA-2S is now redundant or useful when the H4N is off camera etc. I used to be fearful of how the rig looked, but not anymore and as for subjects beaing fearful of its looks? I haven't had a single complaint yet... IN FACT, to my surprise and dissapointment, they seem more interested in the rig than in me. Shucks! It ends up being an 'ice breaker' especially when I introduce it as " A consumer HD camera on steriods".
I actually use a Kel-Tec fuzzy on the shotgun on breezy days as needed and the dual mic thing is cause I need to be at ready to use either Shotgun or wireless Lav depending.

By the way... ever notice the crazy set-ups the so called DOF crowd have to rig up just to get ONE special effect(shallow DOF) ? Though I admit that my rig will not easily produce shallow DOF, at least I could spend on other needed peripherals. And I need all of them outside, on location ,io da solo.
When I use an IndieSlider, it's just the HV20 on the DS10 head.

NOTE: The HV20 is connected to the rig via a QuickCamera release, allowing me to quickly pull it away from the rest of the stuff.

Special thanks to Bracket-1 Mini, without which none of this would be so tidy.

I'd LOVE to just buy the HVXX so that I wouldn't need to add anything to bring it up to snuff on shoots, but then it wouldn't be a compact consumer camera would it? it would be RED or if it ever materializes, Scarlet.
Here's where I began in May 2007...

Look closely, you'll notice it even includes the external mic I used back then, A Sony
Ecm-ms908c.
It doesn't take long to realize that the HVXX lens and capture potential far outstrips the rest of the camera, making Modification, including DOF / 35mm adapters etc. worth while as we wait for the ideal camera at the ideal price-point to arrive.

When it comes to Movies, how everything behind the field of view looks like doesn't matter a whit.

BTW, for true run-n-gun I now use my MOD'd Flip Video, Mino HD ;)

Given any thought to replacing the little thing in the middle of all that hardware with an HV40?

An HV20 under enough stuff becomes just another prosumer cam. :crybaby:

"Thought" ? Of course. In actuality, that's a friend's HV20. Mine was 'purloined' from my luggage in May on the way in from Yurp. United Airways is still 'investigating' the matter- hence the loaner.
I've had no trouble performing pull-down removal to extract 24P from the HV20. The HV40 is still also tape right? So my next step is MUCH more likely to be something:
Tapeless : Capable of DTE encoding : Interchangeable Lenses : Records more than 12 minute clips : Has HDMI out for Raw capture.
I really miss the big interchangeable lenses (since selling my XL1).
In truth, the HVXX is just right for my current projects. Once those projects are done; I'm done shooting. My involvement is 'stop-gap' and cost saving for the short term. I like my day job just fine.
