First test shoot with the GH1. Mostly stock lens, but some Canon FD 50mm 1.4 too.

Looks great,

What GH1 to FD adapter did you use?

Which Hoodman works with the GH1, the HD-300VIDEO HD 16X9 LCD?

Is that Grad filter put in in post?

I watched your short 'Passing Through' how do you feel the look compares to 16mm? I feel in the right hands they look pretty similar.

Cheers
Jon

I used the Jinfinance FD adapter which works well and is also made well. It has a nice little system for taking care of the FD aperture lever - which saves me the hassle of having to wedge it open.

I think the correct Hoodman is the HD-300. That's the one I intend to get.

The grads are post, only filter I used to shoot was an ND.

I think in terms of comparison to 16mm, it could look pretty similar. But it i a case, as you say, of the right hands...

Cool, thanks for that. My GH1 is in the post, so looking forward to trying it out.

Do you think it's worth shooting 30p on the GH1 (in the UK) and converting to 25p (in FCP etc). To avoid the mud? I do most of my work for web so might just shoot 30p, as the mpeg codec looks best from what I've seen.

I think that you will find 720/50 will be fine. Especially if your work is for the web. And it will be muuuuuch easier to work with than 30 -> 25. Also allows you to do slo-mo etc with ease.

Ah that's good to hear. Do you think you might be using the GH1 over your HVX200/SGpro combo for certain jobs?

Can you explain your Edius 5 workflow please? Thanks.

Yeah, I can see that happening. I still see it as a B camera really - but in lowlight or where I want to be light and portable, I'd choose it in a shot.

There are definitley jobs I have done before where I know it would have helped a lot. I'm thinking about shooting the HVX with gain on then a long render in AE to remove the noise with NeatVideo...! This would have been the way to go.

John - replied in the Vimeo GH1 forum - but here it is as well:

I used the free Canopus AVCHD converter and converted the lot to Canopus HQ. For project settings I used the Full HD preset (1920x1080) 50hz 25p. This means that some of the 720 stuff was being uprezzed I guess, but doesn't seem to suffer.

For slo-mo stuff I just changed the clip speed to 50%. Since it was 50p in a 25p timeline it works very smoothly.

The grading was Magic Bullet via the AE bridge plugin - which is only a Beta at the moment, but MBL seems to work okay. This saves a lot of hassle in exporting an intermediate file to After Effects etc.

Nice, Joe! Another very helpful video (in addition to examples posted here by others). It's nice to see what can be done with a GH1 in competent hands. Looking forward to seeing more ...
