From left to right:

-15" G4 iMac, 800mhz, 768mb of RAM, 32mb Nvidea G-Force 2MX. Not sure on internal HDD. Just did a clean install of OSX Tiger and ran updates.
Used for viewing script, shotlist, transcript, storyboards, etc, while editing, and to do light web browsing or word processing if the other machines are working. Is capable of light video editing (SD or DVCPRO-HD [for a short project].)

-20" iMac, 2ghz Core Duo, 2gb RAM, ATI Radeon x1600 PCIE 128mb. 200gb internal HDD, 5400 rpm (I think.) OSX Leopard. Used as primary editing, color correcting, and compositing computer thanks to it's large screen and decent GPU, although it's processor is lower than...

-13" Macbook, 2.16ghz Core 2 Duo, 2gb RAM, integrated intel graphics >.< 320gb 7200rpm HDD (runs the battery down nicely :)) and OSX Leopard. Used primarily for log and transfer of footage (works faster and more reliably than iMac) and for transcoding, pulldown removal, and on the go editing. Yes and I found a vintage laptop stand that was designed to match the old iMac :)

Final Cut Studio 2, Magic Bullet Looks, and Adobe Creative Suite CS3 Production Premium.

From left to right (top to bottom) Lacie 500gb 5400rpm quad interface, Iomega 500gb dual interface, Maxtor 1tb 5400rpm quad interface, OWC Neptune Western Digital 1tb 7200rpm dual interface, Macally enclosure Western Digital 1tb 7200rpm triple interface (eSata.)

Each computer has a cable running the hard drives so I can easily switch them around, and the hard drives can be daisy chained into each other.

My workflow is (when I get my GH1 but I have tested it on card data) copy card data to Macbook in field, or fill up cards and do it right away to externals. Backup card data to 2 externals. Log and transfer card data to one external, using Pro Res, off macbook. Remove pulldown and tweak framerates as needed. Swap external over to 20" iMac, work on 20" iMac. Use Macbook for some exporting and transcoding (but it can't work with magic bulleted footage :() Use old iMac as a nice platform to put scripts and shotlist and logs on to look at for reference during editing.

This is at my parents house in Davis right now but will be following me back to college.

Post pics of your setups with descriptions!

sick. I'm very jealous. I'd post a pic of my laptop but it's an absolute POS, AMD Sempron 2.0GHz. But it has 2GB of RAM. Luckily I can encode my AVCHD to Huffy and edit just fine

Hahaha didn't think anyone would be jealous of my somewhat old hardware...I mean it represents a standard upgrade path: iMac in 2002, upgraded with intel switch in 2006, got a laptop for college in 2007. The end!

lol Is that Star Trek-themed wallpaper? If it is, how cool (or geeky, depending who you ask) would it be if they were touchscreen?? :D

Anyhoo, nice set-up. I'll try to take a pic of my (boring) station when I get home...which isn't exactly used for GH1 footy, seeing as I don't have one of those yet...

I don't have one of them yet either >.<

It's a fully animated LCARS screensaver called System47..google it :)

Some people have also made some interactive ones that run as apps or swf files.

Had to use my GF's crappy lil P&S. Man, I NEED that GH1...

Early 2008 Mac Pro
2 x 2.8 Quad Xeon
8GB RAM
2TB internal (4 x 500GB)
nVIDIA 8800GT
Sonnet HBA
BM Intensity Pro

2 x 24" LCDs

4-bay enclosure eSATA
4TB RAID 0

1 big, comfy chair with lumbar support. so. comfy.

Besides the cam, I'm thinking of either: another enclosure + HW RAID controller; or a dedicated CC monitor (probably a JVC LCD, or maybe the new IKAN V17, or Panny 11-series plasma...); or CS4 + Blu-Ray burner...I can go on & on &...

As it is right now, I should be able to edit AVCHD pretty smoothly, given I have a reliable workflow (SW).

Hi, I have an iMac and Final Cut Pro and I'm thinking about getting the Panasonic GH1. This is probably a dumb question, but I was wondering what connection you would use to capture the footage? It seems the camera has HDMI and USB 2.0 outputs. Or would you capture directly from the card using firewire somehow? I can't seem to find this information anywhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You could read this information up anyhwere in the net using google, but I will tell you anyway:
You don't "capture", you copy the data off your SDHC card using USB2.0.

Yes, it does photo editing! :P Nikon Capture NX2 flies on this thing!

Ok ok, so it's also the gaming rig. Pardon me if my PC is a bit on the general purpose side. :P
