Hi there,
Just wondering if and how much you can overcrank an HVX200. What's the highest framerate that one of these can handle?
I am very interested in filming fight scenes and was wondering how well an HVX can create decent slow mostion effects.
Thanks.

I haven't tried it myself yet but there is the frame rate hack

max you can do on NTSC is 60fps over a 24p base. So it's more than 2x slower. Very good.

Variable frame rate shooting was one of the revolutionary features of the 200. :) At the time, no other camera at that level did it.
As others have said, you can shoot up to 60 fps, and when shooting at 24 fps frame rate, that gives you 2.5x slo-mo, which will 1) be glass-smooth, and 2) in the Native mode, will be recorded that way, so there is nothing you have to do in post to achieve the effect.

Also keep in mind that over/under cranking is not available in 1080.

Well, the variable frame rates are not. But you can still shoot 59.94 for slo-mo at 24p. You just have to do it in post.
Or, you can use 720p for your slo-mo shots; after you get done with the 1080/59.94 in post, the vertical resolution won't be higher than 720 anyway.

You can do a mild slow-mo in 1080/24 by using 1080/30p. Or as David said, you can shoot 1080/60i and de-interlace in post to create a lower-res version of 60fps slow-mo. Or, easier, just put it in 720/60p and use that, and upconvert on the timeline.

I stand corrected.. What I meant is that the camera itself won't let you overcrank in 1080.
