Hey guys,
I'm filming a documentary soon and i need your help! I've been asked to shoot on the hvx200.
I was just wondering if you guys have any tips to ensure the image quality is sharp with no grain. Basically, that full hd look!
i've been asked to shoot in 720p/24pn.
Any comments or suggestions is greatly appreciated!
thanks

How soon is soon? What I did for all of my documentaries is set up multiple scene files on some sd cards. Then what I would do is go out for an afternoon and try to shoot things like what I might expect on the shoot, i.e. certain lighting conditions. then I would tweak the settings and then pull them in the computer and see which ones achieved the look I was going for.
I don't normally list out my scene file settings because I think that the time I spent with my camera was invaluable to learn more about it and I think everyone should do it to find the settings they like. But, if for some reason you don't have enough time to do the tests yourself, I might be willing to PM you my settings I normally use. Just let me know.
A GREAT starting place is Barry's HVX settings given in the HVX book (you can also get them here on the forum by searching). Also, search the forums under the HVX for low noise settings. You can find some scene settings that will give you a good place to start.

It all depends of the final format intended to be on it.
If the doc has Festival ambitions you should go one way, if is DVD only another, internet...
Anyway you also should know that you can shoot mostly flat (which is quite safe) and color correct later. I have done this for my last doc and it played incredibly well in 2K projectors out of a HDCAM tape source. I shot on 720 24pn and upresed to 1080 before mastering.
No matter what, the 200 and 170 are excellent cameras for documentary work.
