"The selected folder does not contain a p2 volume"

Hello all,
Has anyone else had this problem? When I go to import P2 clips in FinalCut, it tells me the database folder does not contain a p2 volume.
I am working with FinalCut 5, so I don't have Log and Transfer.
If I select the folder for an individual clip in the window for "Import - Panasonic P2" it imports fine. But I can't seem to select a whole batch of clips and import them all.
As you can imagine, it's very time consuming to import each clip individually.

Any suggestions?

I was using P2CMS to create database files of mxf clips.
Do I really need to do that? When I selected Import - Panasonic p2 in FinalCut and selected the P2 card itself, I was able to import (and convert to .mov) all the clips with one click.
Is there any reason not to use this more direct workflow?
