I record in 30p on my HF11. Every program that I use to open the AVCHD file says that it's 29.97. When I re-encode the file for editing, should I encode at 30 fps? Or leave it at 29.97?

When I re-encode to 30 fps in After Effects, everything looks fine. However, when I tried to re-encode to 30 fps using FFMPEG, I got duplicate frames occasionally and the clip appears to "stutter" when you play it. Not sure what I'm doing wrong in FFMPEG.

My problem with just doing it in AE or using the CS4 batch encoder is that it has issues decoding frames and I get artifacts on random frames now and again. Re-encode again with no changes to settings and I get the artifacts on a different frame or not at all... Seems like the AVCHD decoder used by Adobe is screwey...

The camera's 30p setting really is 29.97. Just like for almost all cams, 24p is 23.98. Leave it at 29.97.

I'm a bit of a newbie to some of the digital stuff. I'm working with the HF200. What is encoding vs converting? I hear everyone talk about encoding here, but the only thing I'd do with AVCHD video is to convert it to MPEG4 or MOV or whatever.

Could someone elaborate? Thanks!!!
