I've shot and edited a couple projects for a client. Normally I just import the footage off of my P2 card or capture DV off of a tape. The client wants to send me some HDV footage. I'm wondering if I can capture the HDV footage with my HVX200 or if I need to rent a deck. Thanks for the help.

No, you'll need an HDV camera or deck for that footage. And make sure you get a compatible one -- if it's JVC HDV footage, you can't use a Sony or Canon camera or deck (except maybe the very newest Sony deck?) If it's Sony or Canon footage, don't try using a JVC deck, it won't work. If it's Canon 24F footage, no Sony or JVC can play it (except maybe the very most modern Sony deck).

I hate that Sony/Canon vs JVC crap...I almost got messed up by that once before but managed to find a JVC deck...plus it was just a camera test to see if the deck would even work. Anyway, the lack of a standard there annoys me. Whatever many of us are over HDV :)
