720P 3" Display? If anything, I'd buy the camera and just rip the LCD out of it and make it work as an external. That sounds pretty incredible and exactly what we need!

But 720/30P? Sigh... GH-1 may just be the all-around pack leader (based on feature-set and price-to-performance) for a little while to come...

I had such high hopes.

There isn't any word on a price range yet, is there?

Nah, I havent' seen one. But my guess, actually, would be right around the EP1/D90 price. Less than the GH-1.

I really do hope that the rumors aren't all accurate and there's a 1080/24 PJPEG/MJPEG hiding in there.

Well, I'd personally rather have Samsung produce a bug free 720/24 rather than that 1080/24 that Panasonic put on the gh1.

I wish they would just have a more refined 24p with manual controls even if it did shoot at only 720. But that's just my personal opinion.

Yeah that's what I was saying, a 1080/24 PJEG or MJPEG. But this is a good start for rumors. A 720P LCD? Now that's crazy.

Yeah, a 720p 3 inch LCD would change the pro video market. If they could incorporate those at a reasonable price, well then there goes most the demand for an external lcd. Although, do you think it would still be difficult to focus considering it is only 3 inches?

Hmmm. This thread confuses me. Don't get me wrong, 720p 3" screen is awesome, but I guess I don't see why it's so surprising when it already exists.

720p = 921,600 pixels

5d mark II 3" lcd = 920,000 pixels

With that being said. The 5d mark II's screen is far and away the best LCD I have ever used.

Wait, Samsung NX's screen is 960x720 which means it is only 691,200 pixels. Sorry to say that is hardly exciting resolution wise. The OLED aspect may mean that it is the best onboard lcd ever however.

Where's a 3" 720P LCD at in existence? As far as I know, the MKii's LCD resolution is less than 480.

I stand corrected. It is VGA with 920,000 dot resolution.

Unfortunately there are still things to ensure that the NX does, apart from the frames per second.
Will it be able to autofocus? Will it have flip out screen? How long will be each clip? Will the battery be as good as the GH1?

Don't know if you saw the other thread I started, I'm sure most of you want the GH1 more, but personally the Pentax K7 has pulled ahead of the GH1 for me personally.

1536 by 1024 resolution, not full HD, but considering it has BUILT IN IS, a bigger sensor, a broader and cheaper range of better lenses...plus it's photos are stunning.

Can't wait until July 1st

And it only shoots 30P.

GH1: 60P/30P MJPEG/1080 24P. If the Pentax brings 24P to the table it will get interesting. I'm a filmmaker first and it's why the GH1 is an all around more versatile tool than the Pentax/Samsung/5DII.

Ah, the peril of trying to assume that numbers mean what they say. 960x720 is *way* better than what the 5D MkII is doing. The 5D Mk II, as reported elsewhere, is 640x480, making the Samsung's screen over twice as high in resolution.

So why doesn't the pixel count line up? Because these manufacturers frequently count the red, green, and blue pixels *individually*. So it's 640 x 480 x 3 (R/G/B) = 921,600. Bogus.

Sometimes they even label it as trebled -- the Sony EX1 LCD panel is advertised in their brochure as "1920 x 480" -- but it's really 640x480! 640 x 3 = 1920... so they're just counting r/g/b separately.

Beware falling for the numbers from any of these published specs, until you know what the numbers really mean.

The K-7 has great potential, the vimeo clip looks on par if not even better than the MKII but there's no manual control apart from aperture. High bit-rate mjpeg is my first choice for acquisition but not without 24p, manual shutter and ISO. The 3x2 frame size is cool for shooting anamorphic.

argh, 30 fps. I had high hopes for the K-7 and the EP-1 as well but they both let me down. The NX was the one I really thought could be the one, since it combined an APS-C sized sensor with the GH-1's ability to mount any type of lens due to its lack of mirror.

The K-7 HAD great potential. The video is actually 768x1024 line doubled to 1536x1024. There's also some weird color fringing throughout the entire image.

If you don't believe me, check it out yourself -- download any video you can find at 1536x1024. Here's one: http://vimeo.com/5186214
