I made this short clip to show the AFC in action with the kit lens.

That's pretty impressive! I really only saw one moment where it seemed to noticeably jump out of focus when it shouldn't have.

Excellent Rolly. The auto focus is very, very good. Can you lock focus while filming?

Wow! I echo John's ? Can you easily lock the auto focus while shooting?

The only way I know is to turn the little dial back to MF. Not very easy on the run.

As I understand it seems like the focus is always continuous in video mode (unless switched to manual focus). It would be quite useful to have the option of keeping it manual and having a button for push auto but it seems the only way to do that is to turn the dial.

Secondly, when I've tried using it the autofocus seemed to always go beyond the focus point and then go back a little - which looks rather horrid. Yours doesn't seem to do that so much. Any tips on how to get it to smoothly refocus?

That's really impressive, don't know if I could pull focus quite that fast without a run through first and even then!
Great shots of your kids too, I can see I'll be using mine for a lot of family stuff.

there's an AF/AE lock button by the viewfinder. I think you have to enable / assign it in the menu. You might have to turn on the Dual Auto / Manual mode too.

Also ... Panny released a firmware upgrade this morning and one of the things that's on it (I think) is improved continuous autofocus.

Here is how I do it, first you need to set AF mode to: 1-aera focusing, (position and size of the AF aera can be changed) next set the focus mode dial to AFC... that's it :) whatever is in your white bracket will be in continuous focus while recording.

Cool. Rolly, and thanks for the info.

My comment was about locking focus while in auto - which some had commented that you have to turn the knob to MF (hard while shooting) - but there's an AF lock button by the eyepiece.

It would be nice if you could lock in two different types of autofocus for two different settings on the mode dial. I prefer use center point autofocus for stills, and after reading Rolly's post, I'll try the area autofocus for video.

Unfortunately when you change the autofocus mode in manual movie mode, it also changes it in the other modes...unless I'm overlooking something.

One thing I've found is that the % of really nice stills with this camera is higher than any I've had in the past.
