Anyone ever used one of these things?

Would it keep the folder structure intact for log and transfer in FCP from the GH1?

i just looked at the info about that. it says you can copy up to 15gb on one charge. thats nothing. i have a 16gb SDHC card. it would barely even be able to get through that on a charge. but other than that they seem pretty cool. especially if they can be plugged into a wall and operating. i too would love to know if they just copy over folder structure.

I have a Samsung NC10 to empty cards. It's also good for spot checking the original clips and at the same time is a complete lap. Card dumpers are almost in the same price league so a netbook have a higher value.

this one is only 150.

I'm thinking it's faster and easier to stick in a card and hit dump and it does error checking on the transfer (which you can do on your netbook too but this thing is automatic)

Also, for run and gun or single shooter situations this kind of thing seems like it would be easier to manage.

On our productions someone from the post team usually brings a laptop and hard drives to set...I would never be comfortable backing footage up onto one device like that, especially erasing the cards after...that is insane...you'd have to buy at least 3, and keep one in your pocket, one in your bag, and one in your car or something. I don't want to think about how easy it would be to break something like this on set.

I suggest you look at the Nexto units. I have had one for a couple of years that I use for my professional photography shoots. I have one with an 80gb hd and its great for dumping cards and not having to carry a laptop around.

Extremely FAST and it does file verification.
