I just bought a Panasonic HPX 170
I've been learning how to
01 shoot
02 change frame rate
03 change 1080 to 720
04 download to mac
05 transfer into final cut
etc
So I'm ready to shoot again, When I hit record I get (External 1394 disconnect)?
Anybody help!!!

Apparently it thinks it's plugged into something with Firewire. And I guess it can't record that way. Is there a firewire cable plugged in? Have you turned it off and on and had the problem repeat?

Are you recording to a Firestore? Did the battery run out or is it otherwise turned off?
sounds to me like one of two things is happening:
1. you havent turned your camera off then on again after transferring
2. you MAY have zapped your firewire port.
-----VERY VERY IMPORTANT-----
when connecting your camera to your computer:
camera is OFF
plug firewire cable from computer into camera
turn camera ON
when DISconnecting your camera from your computer:
camera is ON
turn camera OFF
unplug firewire cable from camera
if you plug/unplug a firewire cable into your camera while its powered on you run a risk of zapping the firewire port. which is a "send in and get fixed" problem...
