Has anyone tried the GH1 on a Fig Rig? If so, what did you think? How well did it work?

Haven't here, but seen Fig Rig footage and it's as advertised - very smooth shots with very short bursts resembling steadicam footage so long as you're carefull.

The only thing is if the GH1 has a lanc port, which I doubt it does - that's the thing that really makes it worthwhile, otherwise you'd have to let go of the wheel to control the camera. And if you have adapted lenses, it'll be a PITA as there's no way to control manual focus lenses with a remote, obviously.

The Fig Rig is terribly overpriced for what it does. Look into a knock-off on eBay or consider the SpiderBrace.

I already have a Fig Rig that I've been using with my HVX200, and figured that for a possible issue. So I'm looking for specific experience with the GH1. Anyone try it?

I always felt that holding the Fig Rig was kinda like driving a bus. You don't get to keep your elbows in, have to work more, and it's easy to tire out quickly because of the unnatural position. Also, I think it's way too big for a camera the size of the GH1.

Obviously I'm 100% biased, so take what I say with a grain of salt- I know my products are more expensive than a "Fig", but I've never shot with any unsupported hand held contraption (meaning off-shoulder, no spring stick..etc) better than the "Hot Rod Deluxe", which is why I designed it [the handheld kit] the way that it is.

Mike- you're just in Studio City. If you are interested I can arrange a set visit and you can see/feel my little widget for yourself.

I agree that the Fig Rig is probably a bit big for this size of a camera, which was part of my concern. I have one, have used it extensively with my HVX200, and with exception to one scene I shot with it it's worked wonders every time for what I was trying to do. The one time it didn't go so well was with a five minute continuous scene and that was just too tiring.

Thanks for the offer. That PL Deluxe is pretty nice. Thing is I'd actually be getting the GH1 as a temporary camera until the Scarlet is available, so I wasn't planning on spending much on the setup. But now I'm thinking Red One to upgrade to the Epic X when it becomes available. So you never know what I'll do... no one ever does, even me. I'll let you know if I want to take a look at it. I wouldn't want to waste your time until I'm sure. Where are you located btw?
