Finally, after nearly 8 weeks in the repair center, the folks at Time2Envy promise me me HVX205A will be back in my hands early next week.
You do not have to remind me that buying from these people was a really bad idea. I learned the hard way. I probably saved a couple of grand, but at this point I'm not sure it was worth it. And, of course, I haven't been able to get a straight answer as far as what the problem was and what was being done to fix it for weeks.
Actually, I still don't know if I finally got a straight answer, or if my camera's going to be fixed when it gets back to me. I sent it for repair (and in spite of the lack of US warranty, they covered the cost) because it wasn't maintaining focus through a zoom. I would zoom in, establish focus, and when I zoomed out, the focus was gone. I was not physically moving.
They told me it was a software issue. Not being a technical guy, it sounds more like a physical, lens issue to me. Is that possible, that firmware or software could cause that sort of problem. I probably shouldn't worry about things that haven't happened yet, but I'm a little freaked out that after all this time I'm going to get it back and it's not going to be fixed!
