I've done it before using the same SD card that I've always I had in my camera, now I can't. I copy the 'PRIVATE' folder to a SanDisk 2GB ultra II that has been formatted by the HPX170 but when I go to the correct menu in MCR mode the option for 'update' isn't there. The specs on the Panasonic website say 'Mac 10.4 or earlier' and I'm on 10.5.7 but does that really matter for just a file copy? or do I need to use a smaller or different SD card?
I'm on 1.05 trying to update to 1.10
UPDATE #1, did a little searching and realized that Mac 10.5 and higher doesn't unzip the file correctly. you need to fill out this form to receive a properly unzipped update file

UPDATE #2, I figured out a workaround for Mac 10.5 and above. just download the free Stuffit Expander and use it to unzip the file and it will work. the Mac unzipper will automatically unzip the file, but you can find the unzipped file in your trash after the download. just drag the zip file out of the trash and use Stuffit Expander to open and voila, it will work. updating my HPX170 to firmware 1.10 now.
