As you all may or may not know, Apple announced a new update to there MBP line yesterday . I was kind of bummed that there was no word of an imminent release for Final Cut Studio 3. The good news is that the new 13 and 15in MBP models now have an SD card reader built right in! I wonder if it will support SDHC media as well. Anyone want to chime and let me know what you think? Definitely purchasing one in the very near future, but Apple clearly blurred the lines between the 15 and 17 in models. Now its hard for me to choose between the 17 in with the matte screen option (no SD media slot support, just Express/34 )or the 15in with the SD reader built right in and no matte screen option.

I was reading all about WWDC and FCS 3 and all that express card slot flaming yesterday for like an hour lol. The SD card reader is definitely cool.. hopefully it reads sdhc cards but honestly I wouldn't really care cause it would save me like a whole 3 seconds from getting my card reader and plugging it into the usb slot lol..

I would never get a macbook pro higher than 15 inches. I think hte 15 inch is perfect size for portability and it just works out nicely. good luck fitting a 17 incher into a backpack and taking it around as a casual laptop.

O yeah and FCS 3... apparentlyyyy............... it's going to be released alongside snow leapord since it only can run on that. So for the release of FCS 3 we will have to wait for the release of snow leapord.

Either way.. no sense whatsoever to buy FCS 2 cause we really are on the brink of seeing a FCS 3 release.

I sure hope so I have been waiting for FCS3 for a while now.

Agreed with not needing a laptop more than 15 in to carry around. I just wish that the matte screen is available for the 15in as well. Luckily most editing will take place at home when it is connected to an external display, negating the glossiness problem. As for the memory card slot, I agree also with not sweating the 3 seconds it takes to connect my card reader. If anything, the extra slot could come in handy when all USB ports are occupied. But I need some sort of confirmation that it will support SDHC media. The specs page does not go in to any detail with what media types is supports.

in case anybody else wants to know this apple support article states that the new MBP's do in fact support the SDHC format. Good news for all us HMC users out there.

That's Awesome news that the sd card reader supports the format.

Anyone believe that when released, FCP3 will have more native support for the HMC150? I know it's hard to know until released, I just would like to hear others opinions on it.

Thanks!:)

I have no idea. Apple is known for its secrecy on all new products. But I really wouldnt mind being able to edit straight from the SD card when I'm on the go.

With all due respect, there is no way that you would know this.

Apple has said nothing, and if you are on NDA, you can't reveal that information if it is true.

I can understand if this your opinion, great. But it seems that you are representing it as a fact.
