We are torn between the 300 and 170. Skew is an issue, as our ergonomics and some issues with focus.

Any thoughts on what goes out the HDSDI port of the 170 to the AG-HPG20 capturing AVCIntra?

Is it going to compare favorably with the HPX300 footage, or am I whistling by the graveyard?

Graveyard whistling.

The 170 puts out uncompressed HD-SDI, but it's going to be 8-bit instead of 10-bit, and it's not going to have the crispness and "pop" of the HPX300. SDI-captured AVC-Intra is going to definitely represent the best that the HPX170 is capable of, but the 300 is still going to have a big advantage in sharpness and, if you like the 300's creamy smooth texture vs. the 170's organic grittier texture, AVC-Intra won't fix that.

Well, it was worth the whistle.

Hey David,

To prove it to yourself, Take the HDSDI out each camera and plug into an HD-SDI monitor. The difference you see there will be close to the difference you see in the recordings.
