I am wondering which setting offers the best overall image quality.

I am assuming that shooting at 720p will have less compression because it is a smaller image while the 1080 setting is larger but seems to take relatively the same amount of space. Is shooting in the 720 mode and up-resing through a Kona or just exporting a QT movie in 1080 the same as shooting in 1080?

I've been shooting 720PN to save space and am wondering how much information I am losing by not shooting 1080. Does this make sense?

An additional question, a friend is shooting stuff on green screen, which format is the best for keying considering the end broadcast will be SD? Would shooting DVC PRO 50 offer the most info for keying or is 1080 better and then just cropping or down converting?

Hope that makes sense. Thanks in advance.

You could shoot dvcpro50 for chroma because you still get 4:2:2 but less compression than the HD codecs. You could always just shoot in HD so you'll have a larger image to manipulate inside your chroma world, if that makes sense...and really I doubt you'll notice the compression difference between dvcpro 50 and dvcpro hd.

1080 is the highest quality mode the camera offers. It will give you the most detail, as well as the mildest compression. However, it also results in taking up 2x to 2.5x as much space, so you'll have to determine whether that's worth it to you.
