yay I got my fx1000 today. My first impressions, coming from the 35mm adapter+canon hv20/hfs world is that the DOF range on the fx1000 is surprisingly good that I"m hesistent to throw an adapter on it. If this is the type of DOF you can get with a 1/3 sensor cam, I'm not sure why one would use adapters on 1/2" cams like the EX1... unless for specific shots that required very shallow DOF...

But still, being the gadget head that I am.. the sgblade is already on it. hahaha.

well, if anyone has questions about this specific cam, fire away..

How does the 24p look? I know that so many cameras claim to have it, but they just emulate and it looks like crap on TV with way too much flickering. Does this actually look good?

It looks good to me. I don't think it's some fake emulation thing.

hey guys, i'm really curious as to how the footage of the fx1000 looks with the 35mm adapter. i'm shooting a student film next semester and the only camera that i have access to is this one and i plan to rent a letus 35 or something cheaper. i'm worried that the footage won't look good enough and i'm wondering if i'd be better off taking some money from the budget and renting an hvx200a or something. lemme know your thoughts and if you can ever post some of your footage on vimeo or something lemme know!!!
thanks, jeff

you can get some nice video from the fx1000. To get the best cinematic look from the cam set the profile settings:

-color/gamma @ cinematone2 or cinematone1
-wb shift @ +2
-Color Depth @ +3
-Blacks - compress

to get least noise set the gain at -6.

How do you feel about the mini phone jack(stereo, I hope) for audio? Do you use a mixer?
Can you use the camera as an A/D for old analog camcorders?
How's the HDV format using MPEG-2 compression? Does your HD footage look good?

oops sorry for the late reply, didn't see your question. The audio is good, especially if you use an adapter like the beachtek.

The hdv is pretty good. If you want to see what the sensor can do, check out the show Anthony Bourdain's No Reservations. They use the Z7 which has the same sensor as the fx1000, so the image quality should be about equal. I think it acutally puts out nicer contrast and colors than the ex1.

one quick question will that lenz fit on a nx5u?

also did you crop your image to be that wide? or is that the lense?

cause i know that the 1440x1080 is the output of the fx1000 and that is alot wider....

That was shot using a 35mm adapter so you'll need an adapter to get that look on the nx5u. The adapter I used should work with the nx5u.

Yes I cropped the image to be that wide
