View Full Version : Location Scout Tips?

Relatively new to the forums and I'm curious about something.

I have a concept for a short film that I want to do, but of course I need a location that I definitely don't have access to. Wondering if anyone has any ideas on how to get a hold of an abandoned building or warehouse in NYC, either would do fine.

Basically, I'm trying to write/shoot a short film that I could use in the pitch for my feature, but I need the location to be convincing. I would just tear up my apartment (not to mention I live in a shady neighborhood) but I don't feel like it would be convincing. I need somewhere that I can kill the electrical and set up and rig lights myself. A sandbox, more or less.

Am I crazy or is this possible to find in NYC?

I also found places like Seret Studios, but they don't quote prices (I wouldn't mind laying some cash down) and I don't want to look like a moron trying to call these guys for my little short film and they want insurance information and all other kinds of crazy stuff.

Talk to some local industrial real estate agencies and see what they say.
