I'd like to buy a DVD instruction set. Being more of a mac editor, I'm looking for some basic info and some complex.

Does anyone here have a DVD set they like? How helpful was it?

Thanks
Phil

P.S. Is there another way to edit besides the "grab end of clip and pull towards place you want to cut" approach? Is there a "click, cut, and remove part you don't want" technique?

Thanks a lot!

If you're asking how to adjust the in/out parameters of a clip on the timeline, then, yes, there is a click-cut-remove workflow.

Basically you click on the clip (called an event in Vegas) you want to modify on the timeline. Doing this both selects the clip and brings the playhead (referred to as the Cursor in Vegas) to the point in the timeline where you clicked the mouse (also note that there are numerous other ways to position the Cursor as well).

Once the Cursor is positioned in the desired place, press the "S"-key on the keyboard ("S" for "Split"). This splits the selected event(s) at the Cursors location from one clip into two.

You can now select the clip that you want to remove from the timeline and delete it.

Like any good NLE, Vegas allows numerous different methods to achieve something. You can work completely from the keyboard, or abandon it completely; it's your choice. As with this example of how to modify a clip's parameters, there are many other ways to achieve the same result. Explore and enjoy! :)

Any of you know tips or ideas to take a step from beginning editor to more advance? (besides practice X 3) :) I was hoping maybe the dvd's could teach me more.

If you go to the Sony Vegas forum at creativecow.net, you can access the "Tips & Tricks" newsletters by Ed Troxel. I found them to be very helpful with quickly figuring out how to do more than simple edits. I believe you may also be able to find instructional DVDs on the same site, good luck.

I have the VEGAS 4 DVD by Gary Kliner which helped me jump from knowing nothing to being fairly competent (INtermediate I suppose). BUt...
