Hey everyone,
I've read about and seen examples of 60p footage made into slow motion, but I was curious if anyone had a thorough walk through for the process in Final Cut Pro.

1. Open Cinema Tools.
2. Conform the footage to 24p (23.976).

That's it. When you drop the footage onto a sequence, it will now play in slow motion.

yes but what do you mean "the footage" do you mean footage that you've brought into to FCP via Log and Transfer? because when I bring in 720p60 footage in that way, no matter what, it comes in as 23.98 and then Cinema Tools can't slow anything down at all. What am I doing wrong?

You have to conform the footage with Cinema Tools before you use it in FCP. What conforming actually does is simply rewrite the file header to say that a clip is playing at a certain frame rate that you specify.

When you Log and Transfer, make sure that you're working in 60p, not 24p (23.98 fps). I think that maybe that's what you're doing wrong. Use Easy Setup and select a 720p60 profile.

I just use Log & Transfer and then apply slow motion to the clip in the timeline, and it looks great in slo-mo.

The cinema tools method works very well. If you've logged the clips in as 60p properly then you can go to the clip on your scratch disk and use that in Cinema tools. Even touching it with cinema tools (like there is no, save, don't save option) is destructive, so make sure you duplicate the clip! Enjoy!

Is 1/60th shutter speed ok for slo-mo shots? I know 1/120th is ideal, but how does the 1/60th stuff come out?
