At work I run a series of interviews. I finally got access to two HV30's so we can start having a 3 camera shoot. I was wondering if I could get anyone's advice on the best way to achieve this.

Should I use the clap/flash method to sync the audio?

Also, if I want to use 24p mode on all of them... I'm getting really confused on how they will work in post.

I already went to this page here: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=306389 and checked out the doc on workflow.

There it says I need to convert it to prores, do I have to do that, or can I just make it simply HDV again.

Lets say I import my xha1 as HDV to keep maximum quality. If I am required to make the HV30 footage pro res like the apple doc says, will that still work in the timeline? I kind of wanted to do multiclip rather than having to sync them all manually while in the timeline. Also, will I be able to have pro res and HDV in the timeline w/out having to render one or the other?

I REALLY appreciate any help I can get here.

First of all, you have to have your footage in the same format and codec in order to make a multiclip in FCP. I have had footage from my XH-A1 in 30p and what I thought was 30p from my HV-30 and not been able to make a multiclip because the field dominance was different in the HV-30. Apparently there is some pulldown necessary in order for them to match. Pro Res and HDV would definitely not go together in a multiclip. Just try to match your formats and you should be fine. Good luck.

You won't see a quality loss with prorez and your mac will love you for it.

watch out for the PF24 mode in HV30. It has pulldown inserted and end up a 60i video stream. You will need to remove pulldown in order to match it with the 24F videos from XH-A1.

After removing 3:2 pulldown on the HV30 footage - convert to ProRes or Quicktime PhotoJpeg 75% 23.976 (23.98 on MAC) -easily done in After Effects. After that, everything should mix nicely in true 24F bliss :).
