Hello everyone,
I'm getting ready to finish the second half of a feature I started 2 years ago. The first half was shot with the stock lens on the HVX200. Now I own a Letus Extreme and was thinking about using that on the second half of the movie. Do you think this would be unwise?
Thanks,
Jeffery Peterson

Yes,unwise, but it depends on the quality of your footage, stock lens is too sharp to be able to match it so degraded might be matched on some shots, anyway try it yourself but i wouldnt do that even if this would be possible to match adapter and non adapter footage. Also some guys will tell you that i talking bull**t ,it depends how trained your eye is and who can recognize non adapter and adapter shots, one guy might have bigger expectations and tolerance of footage than other guy.
There is a talk in sticky thread here about film look, its about matching adapter and non adapter footage too so you can read it.
But first of all , dont listen to anybody ,try it and make up your own opinion about this.

I intercut adaptor and nude footage all the time. It will look different, but not unpleasantly different. I would say that your creative options just opened up. There is no reason to shoot a whole movie at f2.8 or f22. Use the adaptor intentionally for style reasons based on what a scene calls for.
Match the bare HVX by shooting with the adaptor at +5 detail and -8 MP. You also may have to do more color correction in pot based on the shift introduced by different lenses.

I think this is a difficult thing to do, but it depends on the nature of the scenes. If they are supposed to match perfectly in the same environment and same time period etc, it will be very dicey.
If its a completely different part of the movie that you can justify a different look that's a different story.
I've matched stuff where interviews were shot with the adapter and B roll wasn't and I had to diffuse the B roll in post for a better match. But that is different than maintaining the consistent believability you ordinarily would want in a feature.
If you are willing to try this at all I would advise testing very carefully first.

Thanks everyone who responded. I think I might just skip the adapter on this one. Hopefully the story is good enough and everyone watching will not care about the DOF.

I couldn't resist. After comparing test footage of the adapter and non-adapter. I decided to use the adapter.
I think it should work out good since it is a totally different scene then the non-adapter footage.
