Hey guys, I had a quick couple questions.

How can I speed up my render times? What do I need to buy?

Thanks
Phil

A faster computer, or more of them (so you can use Network Rendering). There are no hardware render acceleration products for Vegas (that I know of).

right, I have a little render farm here that I used for 3D animation stuff in the past
and with a total of 12 Pentium 4 Processors (average speed 1,8 GHz) Vegas delivers
almost every compositing or effect in real time.

Remember that memory (RAM) is just as crucial component to render times as processor clock speed. Load up on the fastest memory your MoBo is capable of using.

More RAM gotcha. Hey guys how much ram do you have?

I've got a measly Gig of ram. For todays NLE's that is almost getting to be the minimum that you want to have. It's funny to think that when I was 14 my parents bought a computer. It had a 2 gig HD. Now some people have that much RAM. ;D

So I can get up to 2 gigs, I guess I should move up to that, right?

What else does everyone have? And what do you notice about having your system better?

Depending on your MoBo, you can get up to 4 gigs. I have 1.5 and pretty much plan to go to 3 with my next hardware upgrade.

Additional to a DVX on Steroids this sounds insane.
May i ask what you do for living heh.

well, I work in exhibitions for a big aerospace company and all I can save
goes into my hobby which is shooting video and 3D animation.

Hey, everyone. I'm just now starting to stretch my legs in Vegas 5 (after extensive experiece in V4). Unless I'm misunderstanding something about what I've read, I'm totally bummed about the network rendering component. According to documentation, you can't network render mpeg's (licensing issue). So, unless you're rendering back out to .AVI's, what good is network rendering ? ? ?

Thanks,
David J

It will not work with MPEG-2. But if you're doing heavy compositing, greenscreening, titles, the whole bit... you know, six video tracks, whatever, and you want to render that out to an .AVI to see it play back in real time (or to render a preview or whatever) then Network Rendering may come in very handy indeed!
