I'm using Vegas (5.0b) to capture from a Sony DSR30 via firewire and I just solved a bug where Vegas could not talk to my Sony DSR30 DVCAM deck.

The bug was that I had installed SP 2 on my WinXP system. Vegas would report a communications error when I tried to capture video. Further complicating matters, Vegas would work if I connected it to a Sony Handycam, but not to the big deck.

After I backed out the SP2 update, the problem disappeared.
Someone told me to watch out for those even numbered Service Packs :o

Stay safe out there.

I use Pinnacle Liquid, and I saw a suggestion to turn off the firewall in the SP2. That fixed the problem Liquid, it would let my renderer come on.

Wierd, I installed SP2 last week and havn't had any problems with any app and my firewire connection. Someone on another post suggested that it could be a conflict with firewire 800. What are you using?

Firewire 800?? I have an Adaptec Firewire adapter (3 ports). I don't know what firewire 800 is.
