I need to know if there is anyway to flip my image before, during or after importing footage from my hvx into fcp.

I understand the basic idea of applying the flop filter from the effect tab. And i even have devised a way to bring footage into color so that it right side up. But this is all just a bunch of extra steps that are confusing my workflow.

I thought that raylight offered an option to flip the image but i cant find it. Please any one if you have a suggestion or direct answer please let me know.

Raylight MXFX can flip the image.
Check this info on how to do it: http://dvfilm.com/MXFX/help.htm
720p DVCProHD footage can be flipped without any quality loss (no decoding/encoding required). 1080p needs recompression, so the quality will suffer.

Another option is Calibrated{Q} MXF Import for OSX:

The simplest option is to get used to working with flipped footage in FCP. If you make the flop one of your favorite filters, you can easily flip multiple clips - just select them on the timeline and choose your favorite filter. Great thing about favorites is that they remember the exact settings of the filter, so you don't have to change the flipping axis to 'both' for each clip (the flop filter defaults to 'horizontal' afair). The only drawback of this method is that the footage is displayed unflipped when triming the transition or cut.
The workaround is to apply the flip to the clips in your browser window, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do it for multiple clips in one pass. If you assign the keyboard shortcut to your favorite filter, it can be done one by one quite quickly, though.

don't use the flop plugin. use the motion tab and do a 180deg. rotation. uses less resources.

here's a good workflow.

drag all your upside down clips onto a timeline.

double click the first clip and do the 180deg rotation in the motion tab of the viewer.

select that clip in the timeline and hit cmd+c to copy.

select all the rest of your clips on the timeline at once.

ctrl+click on one of them and choose "paste attributes". check the "basic motion" box and hit apply. this applies the 180deg rotation to all clips at once.

wham-o!! all your clips are flipped.

then create a new bin in the browser called "flipped" or whatever.

drag all the clips from the timeline into this bin and they will be there, flipped and ready for your edit.

Cheezweezl's method is exactly what I've been doing as well - works great.

However, I still haven't figured out how to correct while trimming or using filters. For example all of the thumbnails in Magic Bullet appear as shot (that is upside down/rotated). It's not the end of the world but it is a little annoying. I'm not sure I follow how Trez is pasting the attributes into the browser clips???

Any fixes for this?

i have never been able to fix the thumbnails. i believe they are always generated pre-effects, and pre-motion tab so no luck there. just gotta deal with it. no biggie though.
