Artifacts in the untouched videos

I'm hesitant to post this because it may be just a dumb question. Having been out of the loop for a while I took a look at some of the raw GH1 videos and I can see artifacts and pop in sections all over the place even at 720p.

The codec just seems to be constantly falling apart. Almost as bad as a youtube video.

Don't see a lot of discussion about this, so probably just doing something wrong? Examples attached..

Those artifacts are not in the actual footage. That's either in the VLC player or your NLE.

Yeah, I was getting the same thing but assumed it was just VLC acting strange or I didn't have a codec installed.

Anybody know the answer?

It's VLC. I'm not seeing that in toast or quicktime.
