Has anyone else noticed that the Magic Bullet takes forever to render. I can usually duplicate a Magic Bullet effect with Vegas's other tools and render it four or five times as fast.

Word.

it's more like an idea source than a usuable effect, isnt it.?

Yup, good to know there's a consensus...

It' a well known fact over on the Sony-Vegas forum. I rendered a 1.5 hour project a month ago with Magic Bullett looks and it took a week to render on my 1.5 ghz Athlon XP machine.

Yes it's astoundingly slow. Network rendering in Vegas helps somewhat; hooking my laptop up to the desktop cut the rendering time by about 35%, but still it's outrageously slow.

I wish someone would go through and create a Vegas template/preset for each of the Magic Bullet looks, so you could render them at Vegas speed (which would be like 10x faster).

Now, who would go and do something like that . . . ?

I would if I had the time and the visual arts skills, I think it'd be a dynamite project to do. But I'm sure there are others out there who could do it better, and I'll buy the CD-ROM of the presets as soon as they do! ;D

Good god; now I have to. What looks do people want the most?

Yeah,
I used MB on a small project and had time to look for a contact Lens I lost in my yard 7 yrs ago and it still wasn't finished when I was done. Ya think it was me or the MB software? :-/

Hi Guys,

I'm new to this forum, and man I know what you mean I use most of the Magic Bullet Time effects for wedding videos I do. I would really like to get this CD or presets off of the person who makes them. Or even post them on this site.

Regards,
Daniel

As cool as some of the MB looks are, I find that I'd only use them for some sort of special effect and rarely would I use them for an entire project. Maybe it's just me...

I'll buy it too.

Black pro mist for me and both the "war epic" looks or whatever they are called. Ultimately all of them though...

I'm getting quite close. Here are samples. The horizontal band in the center is Magic Bullet. The bands on the top and bottom are mine.

These looks render about 9 times faster than MB.

Why are you guys still using Magic Bullet? I thought the main attraction to that program was the 24P feature. We get that for real now. Are you guys attracted to it's filmic timing preset ?

It's the looks, not the 24p.

I'm closing in on most of the looks which came with Vegas 5, and the five free ones, too. Having some problems with White Diffusion 5.0, and "Ohio" will only pop up occasionally for some reason (and I have no idea why it's called "Ohio." I grew up in Ohio; I can assure you, we did not wear 1/2 CTB translucent glasses everywhere we went).

A very interesting project indeed... :)

Just wanted to point out that I stumbled across some presets this weekend within Vegas which do look promising, though I only actually had a chance to test one of them out. If you go into the colour curves fx in Vegas, there are 3 presets in there right at the bottom which suspicioulsy "read" like filmic presets (not that I know much about these, but "Kodak 25**", "Kodak" sound suspiciously like film stocks ??...not to mention the dead giveaway, "filmdv", which is the third preset available....) and since we already enjoy the 24p/25p anyway...

I gave one of them ago, albeit on the wrong kind of footage (interior, low light) but the results I think would look good in more controled lighting situation...

Anyone else tried these out? Just thought they might be useful in replicating some MB looks from within Vegas...

All the best,

Paul.

Ps. vegas 5b here: not sure if they are there in previous versions...

I believe it's called "Ohio" because it's based on the movie Traffic, and didn't the blue sections in Traffic take place in Ohio?

David Jimerson

Yeah. Cincy. They took the Over-the-Rhine neighborhood and made it look worse than it actually does -- and if you're familiar with the area, that's a feat.
