Just watched the video of Samaya, a very engaging, authentic actress, mix that with what I saw on the SDC show reel and throw in a Whitmer script. I'm really looking forward to seeing this entry.

Cheers and on the 500. Will be gunning to make it shine. Im always saying the 500 is an excellent tool, and Im using it everyday (almost) in my work life. So I really want to show what it can do. And as FYI, I wont be using any special lenses etc. Just the standard Fujinon CAC.

We have a shot where our protagonist is looking at a magazine - wont say anymore on that, but I have found my "Women in Magazine" Kate Hockly http://www.katehockly.com.au

Ive worked with Kate before and she was happy to oblige.

The 500 is a great camera! I've enjoyed shooting on it for various projects and it has never failed me.

I'm impressed that you'll be working with "kids" (I know she said she wasn't a kid). That takes a lot of skill and patience.

Can't wait to see this one. Good luck on your production!

Getting to the pointy end now. Good times, I am hitting the shot lists and SBs hard atm. Everything coming together, got ALL the actors I wanted which is always a plus. Only small issue atm is boom op, I had someone but I recommended him to another production co. for a solid paying shoot and they scheduled over my shoot days. See what you get for being nice. I have four others on my list I need to now call.

Relatively small crew

Anyway its all coming together.

Eeeeegads.

Well now the father of my young actor is talking about pulling her as he thinks some scenes are inappropriate. Without giving my script away - all I can say is the entire script is entirely innocent - Alex Whitmer wrote it, and that should tell you. Theres a bit of background to this, which I wont go into. In damage control trying to sort this out.

Ill still be shooting next weekend even if I have to dress my pet dog in a wig :P I really hope this is resolved as the actor in question has a lot of natural presence.

Yikes! I hope you can get it all worked out. She's a great young actress. Would be a shame for her to miss out on the opportunity.

Made some minor changes to remove any ambiguity that have gone back.. will see.

Good luck with that. Sounds like he just doesn't want her to do it anymore though so might be a tough sell. I hope that's not the case and he doesn't leave you in the lurch.

Well Im feeling terribly disappointed right now. Lost our actress.

Its not that I have any issue with the points made by the father, its his daughter and responsibility to do what he thinks is right. And no one has any right to say any different on that. And the script is drama.

My issue is, do it with considerable time so that an alternative actor can be found.

Anyway on and up. Im shooting something thats for sure, but without the actor to make this character work I am not sure it will be this story.

Ive got other cast, crew and locations locked in. And be buggered if I am going to let it go to waste.

Alex.. help. :P

AmyO
06-05-2009, 10:21 PM
Aw, sorry, Noel. I'd be disappointed, too. Speaks volumes for you, though, that you can see the father's side of it. It's hard when you've got a young one interested in such a grown-up profession as acting. (Mine are content to just goof around in my little films.) Glad you're still pushing onwards. :)

Oh damn. I've had a similar situation before so I kinda saw that coming. Dude had already made up his mind and nothing you said or changed in the script was going to help. Bummer that it worked out this way man. Some people have no idea or consideration for the amount of work we do for these shorts. In my circumstance the actor had decided that I had unforetold riches and wanted a higher paycheck... thankfully not in the middle of the shoot or I would have gone nuclear. People like that just see what they want to see...

You'll be alright though.

Cheers guys for the support.

I just got off the phone with her father, and we can still use her, but in his words, nothing this heavy. Again, Im not the person to make that call only he can.

Im in damage control, but we will still go ahead with something. Ive begged Alex for help :P

I cant do anymore today as I must go out to work, but look out for the next announcement.

Noel

OK so here we are.

Petals Fall will not be going ahead.

Alex and I have just spent some time brainstorming our options. We have a solid premise, and also - fathers approval so we retain our young actress.

Also a quick discussion with Herman on the score.

Have to tell everyone out there, Alex is a dream to work with.

This will be my last post on this thread. Thank you for the well wishes and support thus far. Keep a look out, new thread in the next few days.
