Any GH1 720p50 mts for download? I'm eager to try the workflow for Avid editing systems.

Editman, any luck with finding any 720p50 footage for the GH1? I can't find any. Jon
If someone can host it I would be happy to upload some clips.

QTI, have you tried megaupload.com?

Philip Bloom alluded to the fact that it was really straight forward to drop 50p footage from the GH1 into a 25p timeline in FCP (it's not slow mo I'm after) to get 25p footage.
Does it just strip out every other frame?
Does the bar just above the timeline remain grey (ie no render required?)
Cheers

No response on 50p files. I guess we have to wait until Europe gets it before clips will apear.
QTI, have you tried megaupload.com?
Thanks Adrian. If it accepts free uploads I will try tonight.

Looking forward on trying 50p files then :)
Ok, somehow megaupload.com says its "temporarily unavailable in your area".
I've installed Dropbox instead (finally) and shot a short clip of my son's toys on the desk. Sorry about the handshake - just had a bit too much beer and watched Wanted with my wife. :)
The link is as follows.
http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/1232715/00000.MTS
37 seconds
1280x720 50p
56.5MB
ISO 1000
f5.6
1/100
WB tungsten
File is untouched. A bit of deliberate zooming and panning and (if out of focus and not refocused quickly) manual refocusing by half pressing the shutter button, so you know what its like/to expect.

Damn freaking good for iso 1000.

Thanks for uploading this. Loaded it into Voltaic and got one step slow mo from the QT export. Tried the standard AIC output and it didn't look so good, some macro blocking. But the picture isn't too bad for low light.

The 720P PAL looks fantastic. And it makes an almost pristine 25P transfer if you don't bother to tell cinematools to read it as 50P. This makes me wish there were PAL/NTSC switchable firmware.
Oh and there's no need to export this as AIC. There's no pulldown to remove, just export as prores or something more robust on the PC side to avoid blocking.

Thanks, finally a 50p clip :)
I'm not sure if it's VLC thats bugs the video but I get digital dropouts here and there in the clip. How does it look for you guys?

Yeah, outputting in Photo Jpeg looks great ( didn't try Pro Res yet ). The PAL version looks a little easier to work with, as always :-)

Yeah, the Pal version is pretty much headache free. I need to get on Panasonic to give the option to shoot native 24 without the frakkin pulldown woes.

VLC display some bad artefacts but converting in Voltaic gives a nice clean image - very low noise for 1000 ISO.

Just did a ->mov conversion and the artefacts are gone. Mainconcept transcoder didn't work for a conversion to MXF thou...

Used procoder and made a mov Avid HD codec to get it directly into avid without another conversion and it did work well.
A couple more clips being uploaded (so please try again later if you can't download from the links below just yet):

Hey QTI, thanks for uploading footage. Could you post some 1080 when you get a chance? I'd like to compare it with the NTSC footage available.
Here you go
ISO 200
f6.3
1/100
1920x1080 50i (25fps)
WB cloudy

Awesome, thanks a lot.
If you can try this when you get a chance, shoot something full wide on the lens, preferably outside.
And also a shot with more movement.
Try this, taken last week.

Thanks a lot for these tests.
Can these files be dropped straight into final cut? or do I need the additional file structure and files from camera, for Log and transfer? (I'm away from my work station at the minute)
Cheers
Jon
I don't have FCP so I hope someone else can help you with the question.
Went out with my kids today and some more 1080 and 720 footage of similar scenes for you to play with and compare. Seems I have accidentally touched the OIS button and it was off (may be its the way I hold the camera - its happened to me a few times already). Anyway some shaky touristy clips for anyone interested to play with.

If the links don't work, please try again later as I'm just leaving them to be uploaded after posting this message.
PS - all the links in this thread do not work anymore, as Dropbox has stopped them for "excessive usage". I guess Dropbox is not supposed to be used like this. Anyway if someone can host them I will be happy to upload again.

This is all good QTI, thanks. Sorry to ask as I know this is like homework, but if you have a minute could you do some tests for us? I really like the idea of this camera and want to find out its potential. So:
Panning back and forth at variable speeds with a vertical object in view, doors etc. Shutter at 1/50 and 1/200 at 720p (to see how bad the skew/rolling shutter is)
Auto focus test (possibly with face recognition) whilst camera is being moved closer, not zooming, into a subject, to see how smooth auto focus is)
Filming really bright objects against dark objects in the corners of the image, with stock lens attached, to see what the chromatic aberration is like http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chromatic_aberration
Shoot a test starting with little movement, then giving it lots of vertical and horizontal movement to see where the codec starts to break up in 720p mode.
Cool, no worries if this seems a painful chore. Where abouts are you based QTI?
Kind Regards
Jon

None of those links work...

Same for me. Not one of the links work.
Pls see above - Dropbox suspended the links as the traffic went through the roof (over 10GB pretty quickly I was told).
Squig has uploaded one of the clips to megaupload.com - see the NeoScene sticky thread in Workflow.
Drcoffee - I'm in Hong Kong. Will see if I can find time to try that.

most of them are very usable
i think that the camera could use 24mbit/sec and have very good results
1) please do us a favour and shoot 1080 25p and 720 50p with all the settings turned to their lowest (-2) sharpness contrast etc
2) also do us a favour and shoot the exact same scene at 1080 and 720
a static one and a non static one
3) also do some autofocus checks at avchd 1080 and 720 and motionjpeg 720 to see if there is a difference
Thanx a lot

Ok - here are some more tests. Hope they're useful:
http://www.4shared.com/dir/16669622/d3a8031e/GH1.html (http://www.4shared.com/dir/16669622/d3a8031e/GH1.html)
3 clips showing roughly the same thing. A hold, a slow pan, a fast pan, and a whip pan. The scene is fully wide with lots of bright detail so should be a pretty good test. Stopped right down. Shutter at 1/50th. Full manual control, ISO 100.
First file is at 1080, second at 720, plus a mjpeg quicktime.
Be interested to see what people think. I was pleasantly surprised. Even the 1080 I thought look fine on the run. Of course, if you freeze frame it there is artefacting but nothing hideous.
I'm sure keeping it at 1/50th second helps since you get motion blur - but then I'd never really want to shoot at any other frame rate. It does show that NDs are a must.
Let me know how you get on with the files.
