this is frustrating. I shot a dinner last thursday with the HMC as my tripod camera. the main sequence is quite long. I can see the full length of the clip in the log and transfer window in FCP, and it is about 1:15 long, but when I try to transcode, i only get 25 minutes.
WTF!!!!!??????? I have tried it in toast, premiere and voltaic. my last effort is to capture it from the HDMI port to an intensity card. Is there a way around this problem?

Any chance you've selected one of the radio buttons that create a maximum capture size or time in the preferences in System Settings>Scratch Disks?

i will check and see, but i used panasonics avchd restore to try and fix it, and now i only get the first 10 minutes.

Which card?

Was the card formatted in the cam before the shoot?

ok, for those using FCP, read on. I used a microcenter class 6 16gb card. not sure if that may have been the problem or not, but anyways. this particular movie was 72 minutes. it showed up as one clip in FCP, however, in the stream folder, it shows up as 3 clips. NOt sure why. I ended up using Roxio Toast 10 to bring them in to FCP. and, red render bar even though the codec was apple pro res, or so I thought. turns out it is MP4. so, instead of dropping them on the timeline and re-rendering, i am using compressor to make them pro res. If it takes it all night, I don't care. Not sure what effect it will have on total sharpness, but what a mess. tomorrow, i am going to bring the camera with me and capture via HDMI and check on the difference in quality. all my cards were formatted in camera prior to use. other than this long clip issue, this camera and fcp have performed flawlessly, and the video is beauitful.

The maximum file size the SDHC cards see is 4GB. The camera "stiches" 4GB files together for longer shots. Someone has a "combiner" program that reassembles the clips into one file. It's somewhere on this site, but I can't remember for the life of me...
