I found this on ebay, would it work for a GH1 rig? If not, is there any other options?

Found another one in the UK here (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/WIDE-ANGLE-MATTE-BOX-FRENCH-FLAG-LENS-RING-FILTER-TRAYS_W0QQitemZ350182866810QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_P hotography_CamcorderAccess_RL?hash=item5188867f7a&_trksid=p4634.c0.m14.l1262&_trkparms=%7C301%3A1%7C293%3A1%7C294%3A30). Can the kit lens support the weight of this? I mostly will use Nikon-primes but it would be cool if the kit lens could carry the weight as well.

Forget that Indian junk. Get the Cinetactics Matteblox.

The mattebox might be cheap, but the filters to go in it will not be.

I think a Mattebox on VDSLRs is a silly idea and the only reasons I can see to have one are:

1) Vignetting on wides with Circular Filters
2) No IR or IR NDs available in Circular Format

Otherwise, you can just buy 77mm or larger circular filters and a screw on or clamp on hoodshade.

Purchase converters for each lens and universal 77mm lens caps so you don't have to take the step-up rings off.

This way every filter you have works with every lens you have including larger professional glass, you remain discreet in your application and small.

Right now I have:

Universal 77mm Screw on Hood Shade
Hoya ND set
Hoya Circular Pola
Tiffen Ultra Low contrast
Tiffen Black Diffusion
Hoya Duto Soft Filter

All in 77mm size, and each of my contax lenses and my kit lens have their own step-up rings. Just waiting on the uinversal 77mm lens caps.

Number 3 might be to impress clients/girls

I use the Cokin P system for stills and filming ( except for circular polarisers ), works nice. I think I will stick with this when I get the GH1.
I've been looking for a cheap bellows hood for this set up to cut down on flare and reflections and found this,
http://www.premier-ink.co.uk/photographic/square-filters/p-type/kood-ptype-bellows-hood-p-1259.html
Might not be great quality but who cares at this price. Small and light to me makes more sense on a compact camera like this, unless of course you're into creating huge rigs, each to their own.

Kholi, what type of lens hood are you using? That's not a bad idea. Right now I only have lens hoods for certain lenses, but I like your idea about keeping all filters the same size. Smart.

Thanks for the tips!

Hmmmmmmm that looks interesting for the price...Wish I could get a look at the thing...those 25 pixel wide photos don't have a great deal of detail.

I agree with primes but now I have an anamorphic lens on the way with a 95mm front thread on it. I like anamorphic flares but I want to control them so I think I'm gonna have to invest in a matte box. the rubber hood will be in my pack whenever I need to be invisible though.

lol "hey girl wanna see my matte box"

dude ur french you don't need a matte box

anybody got an indifocus matte box?

I'm looking at the cokin matte box. It's the widest one I've seen so far. I think I might get some vignetting if I use a normal 16x9 matte box with my anamorphic adapter. i might hire one and see. The other option is a cavision. I can't justify spending any more than about $500

In that case the bigger the better.

Yeah I'm looking at the matteblox. It starts to get a bit heavy and expensive when you factor in you need a lens hood too. just deciding if I go for a cheap option and upgrade or get something nice that will be a keeper for years. nice costs almost as much as the GH1 though, it's insane.
