They posted some raw samples, as well as examples of how bad AVCHD breakage can look.

I really do feel strongly about the avchd coding as a hardware limitation and not the bitrate itself

Yeah,
I think their camera is messed up in some way, or they don't know how to use it. Either one or both cause to the contrary we have seen excellent results.

So who am I gonna trust before I can actually use this type of camera, Imaging resource?, who knows nothing about video, or those in the above links who's financial lively hood is dependent on using HD/film camera's and knows how to use them correctly. That IR review sheds bad light, do to improper use or a defective product...

Seriously? Improper use? Defective product? Yes, it's defective, in the same way that the one you get is going to be.
I've seen all the footage you linked, and it's clear that the GH1 is capable of shooting incredible footage, but we have to be realistic about its weaknesses as well as its strengths.
The more people acknowledge the faults of the GH1, the more likely Panasonic is to address them.

I agree its the same issues that were seen in the sonicstates footage. Its not a defective camera.
And I also agree its not a bitrate issue as I haven't seen these issues from camcorders with the same bitrate. Its Panasonics codec formula for this camera.
I think the solution, if Panasonic doesn't address it, is to test a panning speed that won't cause it or never pan just follow with minimal detail shifts like Kholi mostly did in the thrift store footie at least in 1080 24p.

I don't really care what everybody else is saying anymore. I've seeing some pretty good stuff done with it to show me what is capable of. Philip Blooms latests stuff is gonna look pretty nice, judging by the stills. Once I have it in my hands and test it on my own I'll decide for myself. If it gives me the look I want I'll keep it if not I can always return it within 7 days, no harm done.

Yeah I think I might do the same. And if it works out just use it as a B cam for certain bokeh shots .

How nice of them not to remove the pulldown. Looks like we're seeing interlaced artifacting on top of the codec breaking up. This extra footage would have been more useful if we hadn't seen any of Kholi, Hunter, or Bloom's footage. Not to mention who knows what auto functions were on or if sharpening was dialed in.
I've seen what the camera is capable of and know what its weaknesses are. Now if only Panasonic would release it already so we can all start shooting...

It's funny that the linked site has a warning that says 'warning - the data size of the clips is ENORMOUS'
Is 18mb big anymore when we're used to vimeo source downloads that exceed 300mb??
Just saying...
(sorry:edit: it says 'extremely large files', same thing, right?)

Where is DavidNJ or something like that, he says it is the lowest quality setting in the cameras mic when he shot that. Why didn't he use the highest quality setting for 720?
