The gain control possibility of Canon HFS 100 seemed great
As far as I understand after some fiddling with different sets
there is no way to control gain when preset to "cinema"
even if I set AGC limit to "Custom Dial".

tHE "Tv" or "Av" presets are the only way to get AGC control
either in the menu settings or with "Custom Dial" settings.
When set to "Cinema" the AGC limit option is greyed out in menu.
Am I right?

yeah you are correct. This is annoying. I found another interesting thing about cinema mode. You actually get more shutter speeds in cinema mode than in tv, go figure. By stopping down the exposure you get finer increments, 1/24, 1/30, 1/34, 1/40, 1/48 etc..

I've been playing with it and I kinda like the motion of 1/34-1/40 better than 1/48 at 24fps.

Sorry cannot use 24p, I´m in PAL land just 25p wrapped in 50i.
I will not use cinema when there´s lowlight.
