Pentax K-7: APS-C Pentax/Samsung sensor, probably 720p24 & full manual control, probably excellent image quality (judging by the K20D at 21fps), probably HDMI liveview. Formal announcement due May 21st, shipping around July.

Nikon D400: APS-C Nikon/Sony sensor, probably 1080p24/720p24, probably good image quality, possibly full manual control, possibly soft (judging by the D90), HDMI liveview. Formal announcement due June-August, likely shipping by September.

----------------------------------------

others:

Olympus ?? m4/3 sensor, tiny compact, probably 720p, HDMI, possibly HDMI liveview. June 16th is the "Official Product Release."

Samsung NX, new mount, APS-C sensor, HDMI, unknown HD video, unknown liveview. "H209" & probably details by late summer.

This post is probably in the wrong section.

(EDIT: We can see the results from the camera's out now and when these come out, we can see what they are like. Right now its just speculating.)

Agreed. Rumors are no longer fun to talk about.,

hahaha both of you are annoyed probably cause you just bought the camera equivalent of a nutless monkey need I name it?

first some of these cameras aren't speculation for example the pentax is definitelty being unveiled this month and it possibly will be 1080p. The nikon is a definite possibility and may be the first VDSLR that actually does the job properly before the scarlett definitely does.

So my point is let people discuss and speculate because its what you both did with the GH1 all over other threads like the D90 and if people are interested to talk about them and your not then just don't read or post. Lets face it there is a wave of people who are storm chasing the first VDLSR which does the job right so let people get excited and speculate and discuss it, after all it is a discussion forum. And don't be sore about buying that monkey i mentioned.:violin:

I learned my lesson on speculating. ; )

I agree that while some speculation might be good, too much is too much.

There is no reason to expect the D400 to be any better than the Gh1 though at this point.

For me manual controls is everything, and right now, the Gh1 is the only still / motion camera that offers that.

Just remember, speculating is what sent the ecomomy where it is now :Drogar-Mad(DBG):

There's every reason to expect it will be better than the GH1.

I'm all ears. Please share your reasoning.

And don't be sore about buying that monkey i mentioned.:violin:I don't get it. What is monkey(ish) about the GH-1? Tell us what camera you currently own...and I guarantee you the GH-1 (as is) smothers it. Rumors are silly....because you just set yourself up only to be let down in the end. But...good luck with whatever your intent is.

Speculating before of the release of another video enabled DSLR was rife in the forums all over.

Speculating stayed speculating and that camera, after almost 6 months, is still at the same level as the pre-production model, despite the noise and countless requests for features in the forums - a very low S/N ratio :-(

Computer modelling from the marketing departments will determine what features will be enabled in each camera when it is released.

They don't care about what a vocal minority of potential users, want or dream. With the exception of Nikon and Pentax, most of the other manufacturers have legacy products, or other departments (call them camcorders, broadcast...) in the company structure to look after, and still can make money with low volume, high priced models.

It seems that they, kind of, work hand in hand, it's like a gentlemen's club when it comes to competition and releasing new models.

We can probably expect that from now, the norm is that every DSLR will be a VDSLR or VDSL camera like Panasonic or Scarlet that have no mirror.

Definitely hope the D400, if it will even exist, will ship before september. That would really blow. As soon as the specs are released, ill know what to do so i can make a decision by end of august and have it in my hands before my trip Aug 25th!

I't will be a real camera with real lenses. The Gh1 is a four thirds toy that can't take a half decent wide shot. We will NOT be discussing this camera in one year and anyone who disagrees is a fool or in denial cause they just bought it.

My point is and I will repeat it for the criminally stupid. You guys speculated and discussed to death the GH1 for months. So why can' you allow discussion and yes speculation of upcoming VDLRS's. Sure ask the mods to create a forum for it, but until then let them be discussed and let people speculate and get excited about the new wave of DSLR's of which many I'm sure you will agree will have video capabilities. And just like the GH1 speculation was all over the D90 thread don't be negative about future speculation and developments.

Arguing which cameras are better is futile, they are all just tools, and it's the artist who makes the art, and tools are just a method to get there.

I'm still wondering why buying a nutless monkey is worse that a ... nutty monkey. Especially if I don't plan on breeding him. He'll probably be easier to keep under control.

No need to be rude. Opinions =/= facts.

I haven't discussed this camera yet, and I'm usually behind the curve ... so I very well COULD be discussing this in a year or three.

I fully agree with you though about the camera becoming worthless, all electronic cameras go in that direction. But right now I am getting tons of use out of this camera, I have used it as a tool to create video storyboards for spots Im shooting later this month, Im shooting family videos with it, timelapse- I even used it to shoot some "real" footage for a friends Doc project (shot on Red) that required absolute discreetness (to steal shots).

Its fun having a new toy, I will enjoy it for some time and then move on to another newer toy- this is how consumer electronics make a profit.

I can't believe discussion of new DSLR's is now in the off topic board?????????????????????????????????????????

Mods It needs a new section in DSLR in motion purely related to discussion of all the different types of DSLR which there will be many in the next year or two.
