Hi everyone, longtime lurker here looking for some info on tripod/fluidhead setups for the gh1. I am currently looking locally at these two setups:
http://vistek.ca/store/ProVideoTripods/239149/manfrotto-190xb-tripod-701hdv-mini-video-head-kit-quick-release/Specs.aspx
http://vistek.ca/store/ProVideoTripods/235618/manfrotto-055xdb-tripod-501hdv-fluid-head-video-kit.aspx
Just wondering if either will do or if I should look around some more.
Thanks

I use the 055 and 501 head as I need to carry this on a backpack and hike with it sometimes. Have used it with a variety of cameras, all larger than the GH1, so you should be good with this. It's not ideal, but a good compromise in the situations I use it. Buy the best you can afford really with tripods, it should out last the camera.

Even at this weight, I'd be looking into a Libec system for maximum fluidity. Bogen's are straight, just that I've always had better luck with Libec's or Smaller Sachtlers for panning and tilting simultaneously.
At this weight you can afford to go with the smallest head and some carbon sticks and come out on top with Sachtlers.

Thank you sirs
I will be looking in the middle ground I think, Kholi's suggestion is out of my budget currently.

Hv20 users swear by the velbon dv7000. it's dirt cheap. personally I'd go for something really cheap that works and save up for a miller.

Thanks for the info Squig, sadly I can't seem to find a place that even sells that one in Canada.

B&H has them in stock. I'm sure they'll ship to Canada.

Or you can try the Videomate 607 tripod. It's got the same head, but lighter legs. And it's cheaper. I've used this one before, and it works pretty well for the price.

I have the DV-7000. I think it's good for the price, but I don't like the head - too much plastic. You can't lock it down properly. The Legs in contrast are excellent - heavy quality.
I think about keeping the legs and getting a better head.
