30p Slow Mo in VV

On Barrys DVD its says "bring 30p into computer and play at 80% speed for best slow mo.

How to determine 80% in VV?

Right click -- go to "insert envelope." Choose "velocity." A green band will appear on the clip. Lower the band to 80%.

OK, I had been streching clips for basic editing pourposes.

So when you do that the actual playback is decreased for the duration of the velocity envelope?

I guess Im confused as to how the envelope slows down playback but the clip length and project timeline remains the same

The way I do it is go into the clip properties and change the "playback rate" to .8000.

Obviously the event will be shorter on the timeline than the actual potential playback will be (because the event is playing back slower) so you could then stretch the event to get the full duration.

I see

I set it to .8000 and VV thru in a reigon starting a lttle ways into the clip and ending- at the end of it. Is the reigon where you would conform the clip to be stretching?

thanks

P.S you guys did a great job on the dvx DVD, thanks for the help

I'm not sure I know what you mean.

What I do is put the whole clip on the timeline, right-click it, and set the playback speed to 80%. Then I just grab the left and right edges of the clip, trimming it down to the parts that I want to use.

Gotcha

I guess VV was tweaking on me or something, or I had too much coffee. VV does seem to handle clip differenly when entering #s your way VS Velocity envelope though. interesting...

The velocity envelope allows you to change speed over the span of a clip. The playback rate affects the entire clip uniformly.
