View Full Version : Printing to DV Tape
Im making a trailer of my movie so my friend can put it in his movie. Thats alright but there is one thing. I shot in 24PA and edit in Vegas 5. He uses Premier 6.5 and of course has no DVX. So he didn't edit a 24p project. So how is this going to look and what would be the best way of going about it? I was just going to print to DV tape and send it to him (he lives in another state) but should i render or not render first. Ive never done this befor. I know it gives directions on how to print to tape but not for somthing like this, unless i missed somthing.
Thanks

Just print to tape. It will take care of any rendering for you.
That sounds great. Would it make a difference if i did render before printing to tape and how is this going to look after it goes into premier.
Thanks Mr. Jimerson

Whoops. I misunderstood your question.
You're talking about printing your Vegas timeline to tape, right? I thought you already had your trailer finished in an AVI clip or something.
Render your timeline out to AVI - use Uncompressed or DV -- don't use pulldown.
Then, follow the directions in Help to print to tape.
That helps a bit more. But will it look good after my friend puts it in his premier timeline with his (none DVX) footage? I wouldn't be so paranoid if it was going back into a Vegas timeline but once it leaves my house, its out of my hands. I just want to do it right befor i overnight it to him.

If it doesn't match his footage, that's not Premiere's fault; it's that the DVX footage looks unlike any other camera's footage. It should be fine as far as that goes -- but like I said, don't use pulldown.
OK, is your reason for not using pulldown when printing to tape due to the fact that its going into premier? Because the help menu is telling me i should use (insert pulldown) but im assuming that is only if im bringing it back into Vegas? Is this right? This is all simple im sure, but im just trying to get a handle on all this compatibility and proper format stuff. There is Default Template (uncompressed), NTSC DV, NTSC DV widescreen and of course all the pulldown options. Wouldn't i want to use insert pulldown if its going into a 30fps timeline?
I need some guidance.

If the program is recommending pulldown, then go ahead and insert it -- but make sure it's 2:3, not 2:3:3:2. The latter may give you some flickering and stutter.
Sounds good. I made it 16:9 so should i use NTSC DV widescreen (inserting 2:3 pulldown)? Oh this is getting silly, i'm just making it harder than it needs to be. Ill just print several methods to tape and then he can decide what looks the best.
