I have a 24PA tape that I have captured and begun editing. Being a newbie, I had forgotten to treat these clips differently.

Questions:

1) Do I need to perform some sort of "import" to 24PA?
2) Must I do this before I start editing ( Have performed a fair amount of work )?

Thanks !!

You've forgotten to treat these clips differently . . . from what?

As long as you're in a 24p project, you should be fine. Vegas doesn't remove pulldown at capture; only on the timeline.

You should be able to switch project properties on the fly, so you wouldn't have to start over if you're not currently in a 24p project. I've never tried that after doing complex editing, though; only with a couple of clips on the timeline.

Hmmmm ... how can I tell whether or not I am in a 24p project/timeline? Does this happen automagically when I capture 24PA footage or do I need to perform this step myself? If I need to perform this myself then "how" is this accomplished?

My apologies in advance for my inanely newbie line of questions. Many Thanks ;D

Go to File/Properties. *It will show you your current project.

I strongly suggest checking out the fine tutorials at www.VASST.com, Douglas Spotted Eagle's DVDs and books, and/or Gary Kleiner's Vegas 5 Companion (which I'm currently poring through, and there's a lot for the complete newb there). *Heck, check it ALL out. *It's a treasure trove for the beginner.

Disclosure, of course; I'm associated with VASST and DSE. *But don't let that get in the way of checking them out -- they're WELL worth it..

... but also be aware, both David and I have been recommending VASST, Spot and Gary since long before David became associated with VASST, so you know the recommendation is genuine. The Gary Kleiner and Douglas Spotted Eagle training DVD's are brilliant and a total must-have for anyone learning Vegas.

In fact, it was Barry who reccomended to me the KLIENER videos and I love it; get them and you will save countless hours stumbling around!

Did you capture them in vegas? Because I know for a fact that I can't capture 24p using my canopus storm2 real-time card. It doesn't support 24p...I can capture 24p in storm and then import them into a 24p project into vegas and it still doesn't handle the clips correctly. They might be there, and everything might look fine, but you are not treating the video as 24p anymore. You have to click on the clip in the media pool, and see if it says that the pull-down is removed either in properties or under the media pool window.

Sony Capture does not remove pulldown at capture. Pulldown is removed on the timeline.

well all I know is that I can't use my other capture card to capture video that is 24p because it uses its own proprietary codec. *I thought that I was doing everything right, but then realized that it doesn't remove the pull down. *My point is only that it can look like you are doing everything correctly, and everything looks right, but you are not truly editing the 24 frames anymore. *I know that it doesn't remove it at capture, but depending on what you are capturing with, it might make your footage unusuable for 24p editing. *I am just saying the way to check is to see if it says those clips are 24p and the pull-down is removed when you bring them in.
