P4 or equiv. AMD, 3.2 gig up. At least 1 gig DDR memory, 2 is even better.
Go to the Sony Vegas forum and do a search "PC Spects" or something like that. This has been asked a bunch there.

LOL
If money was no object Id just goto DELL and order the Dimension XPS Gen4 and upgrade as high as possible on every option; could run around 10,000 but I would!

AMD64bit, fastest chip set, two gig ram and SATA drives 120gig for main and 300gig media. Coulpe of burners (no sonys - DVDA2 does not see new sony burner) Why two .... because one will break. PCI express slots so new video and sound, one large LCD 27"+ widescreen
Grand total .... about $12800 or four DVXs plus shipping
hehe .... now you know what I want for Xmas
I'd avoid AMD if you're a serious editor. Nothing wrong with AMD, but the numbers are against you. We have both, and of the system failures, it's nearly always the AMD machines and northbridge issues. (3 of our 14 machines are AMD's of various speeds)
Ask this again after DV Expo. We're evaluating some major-brand editing machines for Sony Broadcast right now, and I'll be using them at DV Expo in the training area and show floor.
But of course, Xeon is the ultimate, Prescott not far behind.

Yup. And I just had a friend scoff at me for saying I was planning to upgrade to a dual-Xeon system in a few months . . .

12 GRAND?!?! I just built a very similar system for less than $1,500, minus 1GB of RAM and of course no 27" display, but 2 21" Sony multiscans. This is with the 64bit 3500+ which is the best chip you can buy before hitting astronomical price points. I bought 1GB of Corsair ram, the best money can buy, and adding another gig would run me about $189. In all benchmarks, my machine meets or beats Intel's top processor.
Tellin' ya, you can build this system for WAAAAY less if you spec it out and build yourself, which was pretty easy. New Egg is the computer builder's friend, as is www.pricewatch.com.
