hey all,
just wondered why Sony would make an editing software package ( Sony Vegas) that supports 24p but not a camera that shoots 24p?
I'm not sure if this question was ever brought up in here, thought I would ask if any one else wondered about this?

Sony bought Vegas from SonicFoundry, with 24P already supported. Otherwise, good question. Don't know if I would buy such a camera from Sony, though - DVX serves me well enough.

I have often wondered this as well. However, I think that Sonic foundry had introduced 24p support before Sony fully took over the software. However, I could be wrong. I'm not complaining though, I'll keep using vegas for editing and non sony cameras for capturing. :P

Hey - mostly it's other people beating me to answer a question - so there you, go, it's payback time! ;D

When I bought Vegas 4, it was still Sonic Foundry, and it did 24p.

Isn't the Sony Cinealta F900 24P?

Yes. But one doubts most Vegas users have one . . . ::)

The only Sony cams that support 24p seem to be the ones higher up the food chain so to speak...

Who knows, maybe purchasing Sonic Foundry has inspired them! :)

Yes the CineAlta supports 24P (24PsF, actually) and they have a $10,000 option board for some of their $25,000 MPEG-IMX cameras that supports 24P as well. But nothing in the lower price range, and I don't believe Vegas supports HDCAM or IMX codecs.

Sony was the first company to develop 24p in a digital cam.
Sony is still committed to 24p. But while people keep taking shots at CF24, wait'll you see it.
It's an artistic choice.
CF24 isn't true 24p any more than the DVX 100 looks just like film. They are both non-analog artistic choices. CF24 is an aesthetic, just like 24p in the DVX is. It happens to be one I personally really like, and feel it's more "film-like" but not too many people have had the opportunity to shoot with the Z1.
If you'll be at CES, Sundance Film Festival, or FFC, I'll have a Z1 with me, if all things keep as they are planned. (there aren't very many of these floating around yet)
