View Full Version : Choppy AVI output in Vegas...

Hey all,
Okay, this has to be some sort of a problem with my computer. I got Vegas 5 today, but for some reason when I render a DV AVI file out, it is always choppy...
Everything captures fine, no choppiness there, and if I output to .wmv or .mov, it works fine as well, even though the quality is not near as good.
I've tried cleaning my registry and updating DirectX, but still, no difference. Anybody else had problems with this at all? Or does anyone have any ideas what else I can do?
Thanks.

How about some system specs
CPU
bus speed

There could be several possibilities here. First, to see if it is a problem with your system, try playing a clip that you just captured, not in vegas, but in whatever program that you use to play media files. If it plays fine there, then it sounds like it could be a setting when you are exporting.

It sounds like a codec issue to me. *I would make sure I have the new version of windows media player.....WMP 9 *This could not be the issue....but it sounds like it's something to look into. ----and 1 MB of ram could be the culprit :) just joking.

Yeah, the captured files play fine in Windows Media Player, but when I render them through Vegas, then they play choppy in WMP.
And my current version of WMP is version 10, the new release.

I believe WM10 is still beta. I had a lot of problems with it and eventually deinstalled. I’m using 9 until the production version is out.

v10 isn't beta as far as I know. It comes down thru the automatic update feature of Windows, and I doubt they send out betas that way.
Also....have had no prob with it (other than hating the interface).

I downloaded it when it WAS beta, and every time the "an update is now available" box pops up, the download box says "Windows Media Player 10 beta." Haven't seen it for a while, so maybe it's full production now.

Oh, and I, too, hate the interface.

I've found the same problems when playing AVIs in WMP. I usually play them in Power DVD now and it works fine.
